Hooray! So glad for that. It must have been so very hard for your children to have "lost" not only their dad but one half of their extended family as well. Here's to healing whatever caused the breach and a joyful reunion for all of you!

Mel - as you know there is always plenty of sht things that happen that every little positive thing is met with rejoicing.

So, no matter what the motive, or the reasons for the distancing this last year, maybe it's an opening. It's wise to see where it goes.

Perhaps it was not an intentional distancing. It's possible that his mother's grief was so profound, she was unable to connect with anyone during her immediate grief. That's a long time, however, to shut out members of the family. She may have been deeply depressed with the loss of her son. Now with the passage of time, she may be seeing more clearly and also missing her grandchild greatly. I'm so happy for you that you have another chance to mend family separations. Love is the only mending for torn hearts. Love is the only thing that saved me when I lost my Joe. Love from family, friends, and yes, even strangers who became good friends. My best wishes go out to you for continued healing in all your family.

And uts so good of you to put your daughter's feelings before anything else. Your openness to your relatives after a long time is wonderful and reflects well on both you and your dear loved one.
