I want to get a gun for nighttime protection to be kept only at home. I have been around hunting guns all my adult life. What I am wondering is, what is the best type gun for a nervous, frightened woman to have if a strange man ends up trying to enter or succeeds in entering my home? A pistol is easy to handle, but your aim has to be pretty good, doesn't it? A shotgun will cover more area (not miss the target), but is bigger and harder to handle in an emergency where I would need to get ready immediately.

And bad people are not always who killed or get killed with guns in the home.
Ask the parents of the boy I had in class...who found his grandparents gun in a bedside drawer when he was 7 and accidently shot and killed his 5 year old sister.
All guns should be unloaded and loked away. One never know what might happen or who might find the gun. And it's easy to say you would put it away if people were over....people forget when it's just habit to have it nearby.
I would not consider a gun even if they were allowed here- as said - you would have to be prepared to use it- and not miss- otherwise it could be used on you!

My father was a state trooper so we had his weapons in the house..but they stayed locked up when off duty.
i am not afraid of guns..I just know that they ca give you a false sense of security. We do tend to panic when in danger.
