Greatful but sad

Today at 2:00 pm exactly 3 years ago I became a widower. It still doesn't feel real sometimes. I miss Donna so. We were married for 40 years together for 43. I'm in a total meltdown this morning. I slept in her ICU room the last night because I seemed to sense the end was near. It would turn out to be our last night together. Never in a million years was I prepared for what happened.

Now 3 years later I am better but will never forget our love and commitment for each other. The bond is as strong as ever. I feel her sometimes. I felt her presence his week as I was interviewing for a new job. She was my biggest cheerleader. As I go through the rest of my journey alone but watched and guided by my best friend and soul mate, I will do my best to make her proud of me as she always was and I of her.


Hearts

Two separate hearts became one
Beating together for 40 years
Through thick and thin times
Through happy and sad times
Always together, never separate
Now one remains
Still beating
Still beating for two

Hi Jeff, I get what you say about Donna being your biggest cheerleader. So was Juanita to me. Through the years, I viewed all I did to provide a good life for us. But after she was gone, I realized it was never about me - I did all that I did for her. She was my motivation, my driving force. I am so happy to read about the true love you two had together. To have had that once in your life, you are a blessed man beyond measure. God bless you Jeff ~ Scott

Thank you for sharing that beautiful poem. You are right even though only one heart beats today it beats for two as our loved ones will always be with us. We were so lucky to have these special people in our lives and to have been able to share this great love. I know he is with me as we were always a team and it gives me strength to go on.

Jeff as you know we have walked this journey almost the same amount of time. 3 years in Jan for me. You are in my thoughts and prayers on this tough day.
