I did not have many problems with Darrell's retirement, etc., but I'm guessing your situation is complicated by the fact that your husband was overseas. As if you didn't and still don't have enough to stress about, now this! I'm so sorry and wish there were something that I could actively do for you.

What I CAN do, is listen and offer you my wishes that things will all get handled with minimal aggravation and my support by saying you have my sincerest sympathy for what you've gone and are still going through. At some point this craziness has to stop.

I am sorry they are putting you through this. I had trouble with one of our banks. We have four accounts with one bank, which included our tweo business accounts. We were both signatories on both accounts, but they had lost the signature card on Cliff's account so they would not let me close it unless I got a probate order from the court. This was absurd as there was only a few dollars left in it as I had run the business and paid all the bills until I could transfer all his clients elsewhere. Not even the official death certificate orn the fact we had 3 other joint accounts together made any difference. In the end they just froze that account so there could be no further activity on it but wouldn't close it. They can keep the $3 that was left!

Your situation may be helped by contacting your local US Congressman. This is one of those oddball situations where a call from your Congressman's office can make a difference. Seriously, I would try that as they are not accepting an official US Consulate Office document as proof, and they should. It wouldn't cost you anything if they will help.

If that doesn't work, you may have to get a lawyer to help. You can contact your local city's Bar Association and see if they have any "pro bono" attorneys who could help you. "Pro bono" means it's for free. If not, they can usually refer you to someone who will help you for an hour's worth of advice for a low fee - often only around $50-$100. If you need more help than that, then they will have to work out a fee agreement with you, but the first hour is usually free or cheap.

You can find the name and number of your local Congressman online as well as the phone number of your local Bar Association. If you are in a small town, you may need to look for your County Bar Association or State Bar Association's number. What you specificially want is their Lawyer Referral Service or Lawyer Referral Panel.

Thank you all for your support and advice. I am working with a lawyer for certain things. I try to handle the simply ones. I just wish and hope everything will finish soon.
