This community is dedicated to those who have lost a husband, wife, or partner. Anything is open for discussion here, with the hope that we can focus on grief, bereavement, life after loss, and continuing on after a great loss.

It's been two weeks and two days since my soul-mate had his heart attack and passed away. It's what they call the widow/widower heart attack. As some of you might have read my earlier post. David had just retired this past July at 62 years of age. I'm 46 and we've been married 8 years as of last August 9th. He passed on Nov 14th, 9 years and one day after he proposed to me. The 20th of this month would be 11 years ago we met face to face in Chicago. We'd met online, me in OR on Aug 11th and him in OH on Aug 12th. The 27th of this month was our 11th year Anniversary of sharing a bed together.
I've been going through motions for the past two weeks and two days. I've cried, screaming at whoever took him away from me and him for not fighting harder to stay with me. I'm not a religious person. I have no clue if there is a promised land or heaven or a next life. We've both have had rough lives, worked hard, first marriages were a bad bust for the both of us. We had so many damn plan's.
I feel if I start crying I'll never stop. If I let the anger out I'll hurt someone, myself or something, it almost scares me! It's like a cold hand on my hard slightly squeezing it. Then of course I get angry at myself because I feel like i'm being petty because I want him back and I want our life back. We had so many damn dreams together. Finish building a home that was only partially done. Now what the fuck am I supposed to do and winter's coming. Thanks to friends they got it closed up enough I shouldn't freeze with our cats as long as we don't get those blasted Arctic blasts again this winter. I know they say don't make any decisions for the fist six months at least. But I have six months to settle his estate and so I need to make a decision as to what I want to do with the house. Find something else and move which the Life Insurance company is taking their slow sweet damn time on. Or do I stay there pay it off and either hire someone to finish building it or tear it down and pub a moduler home on it.
It's just not fair we had all these plans when he retired and we just started doing things. Granted I work 3/4 time but we'd already planned a trip to Boston & Salem Mass in the spring, then down to Myrtle Beach and Outter Banks in Sept, three years from now was going to be a big surprise for my parents for their 50th Anniversary and then we were going to go to Scotland in five years.
I've only been on my own for six months out of my whole entire life. I hate being alone I hate him not being there for me and waking up alone. We always would ask the other for advice and make decisions together. I miss his laugh and his stupid comments and him passing pretzels or licorice out of his pocket and them lokoing at him funny; I miss him not around to fix things and I miss his big heart helping people. It's not fair that his ex-wife basically beat him down to where he felt like he was worthless and i spent every day of his life with me making sure he didn't feel that way and screaming at him when he said that.
I feel guilty because we'd had a big fight just a week or two before he passed. I'd threatened to leave him if he didn't start fighting for what he wanted and stop letting people walk all over him. I got so mad because he was letting her (the ex) back into his life again. Not to mention his worthless step-son he'd adopted her son from their first marriage. He hadn't bothered coming over for almost two years it was always something and didn't call on Father's Day or His birthday. But, yet I had a cop go to their house and inform them he was having a heart attack and sent him back there because he'd passed away. I let the ex-wife come to both the hospital and the viewing gods I'm insane!
I just want him back and I know it will never happen because I have his ashes. I'm tired and a part of me wants to lay down and never wake up. Another part wants to wake up from this nightmare. I'm a strong and independant woman but gods i don't want to be, I don't want to be alone and I don't want him gone. I know it sounds selfish but that's how I feel!

I was doing a little better around month 7 and 8 but came unglued the 9th and 10th month......and now the holidays and the beginning of his decline until he passed on Jan 16. I only know I will be coming here more often....there is love in this place.
I'm so sorry that you find yourself here. We NEVER though we'd be one of these women did we? I always thought that Morey and I would be together until we both died at the very same time!
I know exactly how you're feeling and there's absolutely nothing that any one of us can say that can take the pain away. We have to get through it, somehow we have to face all the misery of it by ourselves. There will be people around you at times but they're not living your life.
I promise you that it will start to feel more "normal" in time. The key word is "time!" How long it will take is completely up to you. It's your private healing time. No one can give you a magic key to open the healing door.......it's in your hands!
You are not alone though, we're all here with you. We know what it feels like and although some of us are further along than others it's still our world. Some days will be better than others and some days will be so bad that you will wish that you were not here at all!
Take care of you,
Roz
I want to tell you how sorry I am to hear about the death of your husband and for all that you both had to go through.
Please know that you have lots of friends here who have had some very similar or as heart wrenching experiences as you.
I hope that the days ahead bring you some peace,
Roz
I'm also not a believer of "heaven"......I believe that after we die our souls search out for another body to inhabit and we live on. Haven't you ever met someone that you swear you've met before....well, you have, in another life!
This life is sort of like a dream......you know.....Merrily, merrily, merrily, merrily life is but a dream!!!!
These are just my humble beliefs......whatever they're worth. I've believed this since I was a kid, they keep me going!
Roz
I understand the shock, the anger, the confusion, and what it's like wanting to just wake up from the nightmare....
It will get better, and you will get through this. It's not going to seem like that for a long while, but you will. Until you start to regain some balance and some strength, try to eat at least one decent balanced meal a day and drink a lot of water to counter-balance the crying so you don't get dehydrated. Sleep when you can - it's going to be rough to sleep for awhile, too. That's normal. You've already got meds for that, but if you don't want to take a pill for it, you can try some chamomnile tea about an hour before bedtime. You can find it in the supermarket with the other herbal teas - "Sleepy Time" is Celestial Seasonings' version of it. It won't knock you out but it will help relax you so you can sleep, and it does not interact with most other meds or substances.
For the anger and frustration, I pounded my pillows with my fists. I was scared I would let loose on somebody, and it was useful to dissipate what I was feeling. You can also whack one pillow with another pillow - a friend here suggested that one.
Counseling helped me survive it. So did journaling. Just a thought...
I am sorry for your loss and that you found yourself needing to be here. I wish no one ever needed us, but I am glad you did find us. Being here made a huge difference for me and I have since rebuilt my life. You can get through this. Don't give up.
Love and Hugs,
Martha
