yes, difficult time. I think it is making me stronger though, more able to cope with things I never thought I could.

Yes, it was my story too. I began looking into things I might enjoy. It was hard because in my previous life I enjoyed being with Don and so I had to go with trial and error. After a few "no. This is not for me." I found lunches with new friends and other activities I could learn to enjoy. Sharon

I had to laugh when I read this. Wish HE knew how to do this...... I was not blessed with a Tim Allen tool toting kind of guy.

Maggie....lol...... my husband couldn't even put a nail in the wall straight. I have always done everything around the house, including paining, inside and out. he was so bad at repairs, he would call someone to fix his mistakes, before I found out. And he would pay for them too. one time I was at work. the day before I bought a new bathroom door. to replace the next day, that I had off. I came home, my dad (who was a carpenter) was there with him. He cut the door off.(I had it made to measure), didn't need cutting off. My dad was trying to fix it...he cut it 8 inches short from the bottom. It was mahogany...So, my dad had run to the hardware store, bought those gold door things, and they glued them to the bottom, to lengthen it, and they were crooked.....lol

My husband could fix everything! That was something I just adored about him! My dad isn't like that so having a husband like that was great. Cars, engines, home repairs, computers...everything. Now I find myself wishing I had paid more attention when he did stuff. he would always try and show me how to do it...and I would tell him, but that's why I have you!

Five years in April Jim has been gone. Everytime I have a problem with the car or house I wish he was here. So I go through a list in my head as who to ask. Jim was a mechanic and he was wonderful with cars. This winter the electric start went out on the snowblower. The icemaker broke in the fridge and the handle on the microwave over the stove broke. I am learning that not everything has to be as perfect as it was when Jim mister fix it was here. Those days are gone. Surviving is the name of the game. I have done that for almost five years like it or not.

I hope I get to that point soon. He's only been gone a little over a month so I know it will be awhile. He could do anything like alot of others have said...cars, homes, inside, outside. Always had ppl calling him to ask for help cuz he always would. So now I'm back to trying to figure it out myself. And every time I notice a crack in the wall or a squeak in the steps I think " I wish I knew what to do" and "I wish he were here to fix it" Someday I hope to be like alot of you and not think it so much

I have the things around the house covered. I did the remodeling inside and out. Pretty good at fixing appliances too. We also shared household chores and I make a mean cheesecake.
Anne took care of the money. Bills, taxes, car repairs. She even orchestrated a new roof and AC unit for the house just a month before she left. I hate writing checks and I dread tax time.

I hate being alone too!

We all seem to have things we were good at. And our other halfs had the ones they were good at. That is why we were such good couples. Now we have to learn or figure out how to do their things. Consider it a challange. I am trying to, cooking was her thing, so far I have figured out how to do breakfast.

My husband could fix anything that broke. I can do a lot of things myself too, having learned a lot from helping him over the years. I am lucky though. If there is anything I can't handle, one our sons take care of it. They are all as talented as their Dad was.

As a teacher, I used to tell students that if they could read, they could do anything ... fix an appliance, cook a meal, repair torn clothing. Now I'm putting my own advice to work, and it's not always so easy. Perseverance is the key, I guess!
