Widows & Widowers Support Group
This community is dedicated to those who have lost a husband, wife, or partner. Anything is open for discussion here, with the hope that we can focus on grief, bereavement, life after loss, and continuing on after a great loss.
Personally, I don't think it's morbid; we all react in ways that feel right to us. My wife was cremated a year ago, I still have her ashes at home, on a shelf, where I can talk to them whenever I want. I have a selection of photo prints that I rotate through, propping one up in front the urn.
If someone tells me that's nuts, I'll wholeheartedly agree ... I think being widowed after 48 years of marriage has made me more than a little nuts ... 8-)
As for me, hubby was spread on 18 holes of one of his fave golf courses in Florida. I couldn't look at the ashes, never opened the box. I carried it to the car of one of his buddies that was hosting the memorial golf tournament and let him go. I was with him when he took his last breath and literally saw his pysical "life" leaving this realm. He was no longer Jim, my husband . . . he became one with Spirit and I honor him in my own way of knowing he is with me in spirit, yet gone physically.
We each do what speaks to us and brings comfort to us. Again, no right or wrong . . .
Hugs to you, Dayna
Also I had some time before she passed, I cut a lock of her hair and kept that. I have a pretty piece of figured wood that I will make a pendant containing some of that hair and some cremains.
As Triquetra said " Do what brings you comfort "
