This community is dedicated to those who have lost a husband, wife, or partner. Anything is open for discussion here, with the hope that we can focus on grief, bereavement, life after loss, and continuing on after a great loss.
This week when I did my grocery shopping I had peanut butter on my list. That's my breakfast. A slice of toast with peanut butter and coffee. My Big Swede preferred creamy. I like crunchy. I have always bought creamy because to please him made me happy. For the first time in years i purchased crunchy by peanut butter. Sounds crazy but it was a big step for me. Even after he's been gone i still bought his style of peanut butter. I took the creamy off the shelf and almost placed it in my cart but stpped and thought "This is silly. He isn't going to enjoy this and I'm not going to enjoy it fully either. Get the crunchy." And I did. And I enjoyed it!
Surely this is a metal or for life without our lived one. Loving relationships require compromise on many things, TV shows, music, dinner plans, on and on. And we happily give way to please our soulmates. Now there is no one to share and compromise with. So we pick up our hearts and do tge things WE want to do. We would eagerly return to those days of compromise, but that is not within our power. So go forth and buy the crunchy. I'm sure they smile down on us when we do.

He would take out a soup spoon and dig into the jar while watching his favorite politico's on T.V.

Your Big Swede would tell you to go for it. And set back and watch you enjoy yourself.
My wife was notorious for watching every type of Law and Order there is and CSI Miami and every other show of this kind around the clock. I would usually watch the T.V. in the bedroom. Now it just doesn't seem right to be watching anything on the T.V. in the living room, that was her room for that. I started to watch a Law and Order one day and couldn't because she wasn't here to see it. Still can't get settled into this change, but it will come.
