crazy day

Today I went to get my haircut. This may sound very mundane,but let me explain.
I go back to Jersey every four or five weeks to get my haircut.
it is over 80 miles each way, but I've been going to my barber for over 44 yrs. My Karen would always make the trip with me because she didn't want me making the drive alone. What got to me was that we always held hands when I drove and it really got to me today that she wasn't there. It made me extremely sad.
Louie, my barber came from Italy in the late fifties and is a fantastic guy. I know him almost as long as I new my girl. He was in shock last month when I told him of Karens passing. Here's the crazy. When I showed up today he had all sorts of recipes for me because he new I had no idea how to cook. How wonderful and fantastic that he would take the time to do that for me. So today I had something that made me sad and something that made me very happy. I feel I had a good day.

Joe, Im so happy that it was a sad/ but happy in the end day I have those too. So now are you going to tell us tales, of cooking adventures? lol. Much love and big hugs carla

Oh, don't we all wish there were more like him ?!.. knowing that such an act of kindness could so comfort a grieving man?

Yeah Joe, that not holding hands while driving part still gets to me - probably always will. Awesome how your barber friend blessed you. What a nice man. You will see more and more days that have both good and bad in them. Hang in there my friend. You will get through this. ~~ Scottie

That's really sweet. Sometimes people are unexpectedly and heartbreakingly kind after we have been widowed.

I am finding thru my journey that the people I least expected to show me compassion, patience and thoughtfulness were the people that I least expected it from. The ones I expected to be there weren't. How funny this widow/er thing works. And awww, the hand holding I miss enormously.

It is amazing how often it is people we don't expect who step forward and become our new heroes, and often the ones we thought would be there for us simply aren't. As for the hand holding and such, yeah, Cliff and I held hands or hugged all the time. And we always kissed 'hello' and kissed 'goodbye' - even if one of us was just going to the store for 15 minutes.

He did all the driving, so when he died, I basically had to relearn to drive. I hated being alone in the car without him, and I hated learning to drive again. But needs must....

I hope the recipes are a big help - you'll have to let us know how your cooking adventures go. :)

In widow or widowerhood not many step up because they are uncomfortable but those that do really really care. He cares this is so neat
