Counselor, Need Professional help

How do find inexpensive counseling. I have health insurance can't afford the copay. And I know I need professional help. Must find one asap.

Im not sure but maybe you could try hospice in your area? They may be able to suggest something anyways. Good luck.

I agree w/Sandy. I'd try Hospice and I'd also call the Social Services dept at your area hospitals. I know that some hospitals offer grief counseling in a group setting but if you need one-on-one counseling they may have counselors who will provide at reduced rates. But Hospice should be able to point you in the right direction. Good luck and please let us know if you're successful. -Linda

I agree with the others - hospice should be able to give you some leads, as should social services (if you are in the states, they are usually listed under county services), funeral homes often have counselors who can give you referrals. In the area I live in Catholic Charities has a huge social services network, but other churches may also provide counseling services for free. Even private clinics will sometimes help on a sliding scale. Don't be afraid to ask.

Some counselers will accept just what the insurance will pay. You need to ask first. I agree with everyone else about where to look. Good for you for knowing you need help and asking for it. I'm proud of you.

I get free one-on-one grief counseling and group therapy through my local Hospice.
It makes no difference if your loved one died under hospice care.

Ask a trusted friend, or trusted doctor, or trusted pastor for suggestions. I went to social services and got a counselor who didn't know what they were doing. I thought I found a counselor who was a good one - and wasn't. Finally my doctor - who is a christian - suggested a christian counselor and it was the best one to go to. They do it a combination of ways: sliding scale, if you have SSI or medicare it is free, and I talked to the counselor and he reduced his fees. So, ask someone you trust is my best advice - you need to do this also because when we are emotional trust issues are all twisted in the emotions.
