Taking guns out of their hands will not work. It will be like drugs. They're illegal yet criminals get them everyday. What we need instead is access to mental institutions. They were closed in the 1980s and prisons used instead. Some were just let lose and live on the street. Now, they're all of our problems.

Here's what we're facing with or without gun control: You can't have someone committed on your say-so. They have to do something first. They have to commit a criminal act. Otherwise they are sent home. Doesn't matter how many people they say they're going to kill. You can't use an audio recording to prove it either. Inadmissable in most cases. Illegal to do in Illinois. It's a mess.

Had a guy tell me the other day how easy it is to get an illegal gun. Just go into the city, he said. Ask anybody selling drugs on the street where to get one and it's yours. Controlling guns will only stop the good, sane people from getting a gun. We need to lock the sick away, like they did years ago, back before people walked into schools and took the lives of innocent babies.

Think about it. It all started in the 1980s. Back then they called it going postal. Coincidence? I think not.

This whole incident is ever so troubling. I pray for the innocent lives stolen so young and the parents. Hopefully some good will come out of this awful tragedy. Guns need to be kept off the street and out of the hands of those who are not stable. The mother should have had all those guns locked up with a key where only the registered person has access. even that is not full proof, but may cut down on incidents such as this. Something has to be done differently. I don't believe mother was a teacher at the school according to the reports. This individual should have shown some signs of not being stable which should have been addressed years ago.When small problems are not address they turn into bigger problems later on.

Assault weapons should be banned. If he hadn't been able to shoot so many rounds without reloading some might have gotten away. My husband was a hunter I bought a gun safe to make sure they didn't get in the wrong hands.I can't even imagine the pain these families is feeling. Hopefully something good will come out of it.

I agree completely those are my exact thoughts. I am deep in grief for my husband, but i can't imagine right now the depths of pain, trauma, grief these families are going through. beyond my understanding. their level of loss and the whole shock of it has to be just completely beyond words and their hearts have been shattered. :( what evil.

My 10 year old grandson has Asperger's. He is sweet and innocent - won't even let me kill a stinkbug because he feels sorry for it.

I am extremely troubled about the media stigmatizing an entire group of people (Aspergers"s) this way. Locking them up in institutions etc! And yes, that's been advocated in the media over the past 2 days.

Children with Aspergers are FAR MORE LIKELY to be the VICTIMS of crime. Please don't judge these precious ones who through no fault of ther own were born with autism. Autism/Aspergers is an ongoing heartbreak for the family.

My daughter is in anguish over the implications to her little boy. I feel like I'm watching her be tortured over this and her sweet child did nothing wrong.

You're right, IceJam, Aspergers is not a mental illness. Never has been. There are doctors on television telling people this, so the confusion should go away very quickly. This young man, in my opinion, had mental issues on top of Aspergers.

I know two people with Aspergers and would trust them with my life. They're wonderful intelligent people who just have problems with social interaction.
