Evil seems to be running rampant in our country and the world!

my thought immediately too went to the parents whose lives will never be the same, who have gifts wrapped under a tree who are paralyzed with grief and shock and whose children did nothing more than wake up anticipating the holiday break they will soon have. I am so saddened for all the people who hearts are broken and will never mend

My heart is breaking for those poor families. How can this happen?
These were little innocent children.

Our collective hearts break once again for the families in Newtown, Connecticut. I have cried tears of sorrow today, but this time it was for them. They will be in my thoughts and prayers in the days, weeks, months and years ahead. May God give them all they need to help them survive this tragedy.

Something needs to be done with gun lagislation to keep guns out of reach. What is worng with school security? I would think a public school would be more strict in letting people in as they have more kids and less chance that administration would personally know everyone that comes to the door. This is sad.

There are no words to describe what losing a child. Especially since their lives were taken maliciously, not because of illness or accident. This didn't have to happen. It was an act of someone's will that their lost their lives today. I cannot imagine the grief these parents feel,as well as family members of the adults who were slain.

I think these events are symptomatic of a society in which not everyone feels valued, who may not have access to mental health help, people who feel they have been bullied, people who see no hope for the future. This is just a short list of possible causes of these types of events. The overlying shortfall,though, is people not caring enough for other people until an event like this focuses us on our love for one another, or lack of. Humanity is trampled by selfish desires. God is pushed into the background as if he is not valued. He is not valued by so many, many people. Whatever religion people believe in, they must believe in the Golden Rule if we are to keep from killing each other. There are many unknowns. We will never know for sure why this happened. What we can do, however, is re-evaluate what other people on this earth mean to us and how we should treat them. These are my personal opinions.

New Roads...I get what you are saying about the Golden Rule...but we are talking about nut cases here. Guns need to be kept out of their hands in the first place. Just telling people to be kind does not cut it in this society. There are psychos and thugs out there that kill nice people.

This is so true *when you think you have it bad, someone else out there has it worse.* Prayers go out to everyone facing this tragedy...

Praying for the families on this sad night. We all know how bad we feel losing our spouses. Can't imagine losing my child. They were only babies.
This is pure evil.

The babies are wrapped in God's arms, but the parents are walking through hell. So sad.

According to news reports, the guns were bought by the mother, all legal. However, this did NOT stop an unauthorized person from picking up the guns and using them. According to news reports, Connecticutt has some of the strictest gun laws in the nation. So, what now? What is the solution to gun use in society? I wish I knew.

The horror of a life lost at 5 years old is just too horrifying for us to grasp...say nothing about 18 children who were just starting their lives. I have worked with many many persons that suffer severe mental illness (most of which would not harm another human being), as well as many many persons that suffer with severe drug addictions...(99% of which were illegal).

I do not know the details of this situation and nothing will make it make sense in our minds because none of us could even begin to comprehend what would cause this. I know however that when you combine severe drug addiction with trauma or illness, things can and do happen that none of us could imagine. Many will use this horrible tragedy to further their cause and argue their case.

The reality of this is that something being illegal does not matter to someone that either is not mentally capable of following the law, or is so addicted to an illegal substance that they would kill their own mother.

Then people say "how could God allow this to happen" and my answer is that God is not a puppetier who is going around saying ...."you die...you live." I believe that God allows free will.

What happened is so so sad. My heart breaks for the families who lost their babies and for all of the people personally affected by this horrible horrible tragedy.

I pray that we all will be there for each other and help each other survive this tragedy.

This young man was very troubled. Where was the help for him before he did this? The stigma of Mental illness must end in this country so more people will seek help. Gun laws must also be changed. All this being said my heart goes out to the parents of these young children. They were innocent and got caught in the line of fire. What parent will want to send their child off to school on Monday? This kind of things needs to end...it has become commonplace.

Assault guns should be against the law - what is the purpose. As for the school - no one let him in. He blasted his way into the school. Even a security guard at the front door could not have prevented this.

No other country in the world has these lenient gun laws.
