I agree with your idea - not a good message for a card - or perhaps even a plain card - not christmas or holiday - just blank. I sometimes use these for simple messages.

I sent a note to someone who I heard from who did not know of my husband's death. I just a generic note card and told him what had happened. I think people do mean well and want to know. It wasn't easy for me to write but what is easy right now?

My sister had a handout of my husband's favorite saying along with a picture of him on his bike, with the date of his birth and death. I enclosed this in my Christmas cards last year, to people that weren't at the service. I thought it was easier for me, to let them know, if they hadn't heard, and then they would have a picture of him also. I only had one elderly lady we had know for years, call me very upset, because she hadn't heard, and wanted me to know she would have been there, if she had known.
I have been putting off mailing my cards this year. No pictures, no new news, just my name, it seems so depressing.

I have to say if the far flung acquaintances thought enough to send Abby a Christmas card a response in her honor may an answer to the dilemma. Though my husband's co- workers knew of my husband battle and death I sent them a card in his honor because I know that is what he would have wanted me to do. I celebrate Christmas because of God's gift of hope and it is that hope my husband believed in. Think what she might have written in a card to them. But of course each of us need to do things in our own time. Diane

I would opt for a short note to each with your e-mail address or a phone number in case they want to reach out to you.

I always do a happy New Year Smilebox on the computer, thanking everyone for their kindness each year, and include pictures of my travels, each person I saw, etc. I always sign card s (birthday and whatever) ''Vicki, Daisy the Wonder Dog, and Jerry in Heaven''. I will continue to do this - I hate the thought of not speaking his name again. One girlfriend, (sorry guys, but usually women do the cards and such) made a big deal about having her husband actually sign his name to whatever card ''they'' were giving. The kids when they were old enough too. I thought that was a nice touch.
