Not sure if I mentioned this before, but the appendix to the "Seven Choices" book also has lists of books recommended by age groups, so it has books recommended for kids and teens, which helps if you have those in your life that are also struggling. One that was mentioned there that I understand is good for helping grandkids is called "Where is Grandpa?" by T.A. Barron.

I have been reading a lot too and some of the books, like For Widow's Only, seem to be okay but more of a checklist than anything else. Some of her suggestions sound great but then she gets into things like items to have for your car and yard and safely parking your car. Now I know I am a very young widow but I have always known to not park by vans in the parking lot... didn't need my husband to tell me about that. Does anyone know of anything that speaks to young widows without children? I wore the Stilettos book and was relating well and then she started talking about managing children and getting them thru things and I don't have children. One book I found was a Young Widow's Memoir but it was too spiritually related for me. I also find some of the situations in these books hard to relate to. They always talk about how busy they try to stay for so long to not deal with the grief but I know when I lost Ryan I literally stayed in bed for two days and for about the next two months did nothing but go to work and come home and crawl into bed. Maybe this was because Ryan was sick for three years so I was literally coming off a three year long adrenaline rush or maybe it was just my way of grieving I don't know. I can't really find any books that focus on widows whom lose their husbands to extended illness and switching from becoming the caregiver to something else. Any suggestions at all for either of these problems?


P.S. A Medicore Widow is pretty good read. I liked that the author whom I don't recall right now was honest about her failures with her life and her children in the first year or so and also that she could look back and laugh about some of the things she did or thoughts she was having at the time. Made me have hope that I could get to that stage at some point. But again this book involved a widow with children and I can't relate to that scenario.

The writings of 365 different people and days describes so effectively the feelings and reality of what grief is. Its a small book one page for each day I keep it by my bedside. It provides great comfort.
