This will be my 5th Christmas without my husband and I thought I was going to be fine this year. I am awaiting the birth of my second grandchild any day and I certainly have much to be grateful for. But as we get closer to Christmas it’s becoming more difficult to be in a holiday spirit and I feel a heaviness coming over me. In fact at some point today I’m sure I’ll need a good cry!  Just to let you all know, you are NOT alone.  This day and this time of year is so difficult for so many of us.   I’ve tried to keep the real reason for Christmas in my heart and mind and that helps.  In fact, it is what gets me through every day of my life. I sincerely hope that you all receive many blessings this season and try to find a moment of joy.  God bless and wishing you all peace Marybeth

I am feeling the same way. I lost Mike 02/11/14 and can't believe five years have gone by (half a decade). It makes me wonder about the next five years without him. Will it be more of the same?! Like you my faith is getting me through the difficult times and thinking about Jesus on Christmas day. I feel like a Debbie downer but knowing that I am not alone really helps! Wishing you all the best for you and your family and new grand baby. (Love and hugs)))

I think this has been a tough year all around the world, and it's been tough trying to be "festive" this year. I stay active in my church and it has helped some, but it's more because I know it helps others when I do things in church. Does that make sense? We had a coffee morning at church on Friday, and I was talking to a widowed friend about it. We agreed that we can't do anything about what lies behind us, only about what lies ahead, and we both wanted to try to make things better if we can and try to enjoy whatever time is left to us. It was good though to have someone else to talk to just to say "this time of year is tough for me."

Like the carol, I'll send you tidings of comfort and joy, and hope all goes well with the new baby.

Likewise; it's the 7th Christmas for me without her and as usual, I'll spend it alone. So yeah, it's tough.
I don't know if there's any one particular way to get through this as all of us have different paths that we're on.

This was my ninth Christmas without my dear John. I had so many lonely and hard days leading up to Christmas. Each year, I host our family dinner; and I am so glad when it is over. I have had multiple family losses after losing John, and the holidays are so different. I have to wonder if I will ever recover from all the loss, but I keep trying.

Is it strange that yesterday I broke down crying and thought thank goodness the holiday season is behind me. Now I can get back to my "normal" routine of just getting through it! LOL

I completely get that. It's always a relief when the holidays are over, although as more time has passed, it's getting a bit less stressful and painful for me. However I did have a dream about my husband a few nights ago and it's left me unsettled and missing him so much more again. I've not had a dream about him in a while, I was wanting one. Now, I'm thinking, be careful what you wish for. For us, we can't win either way! Hope you are feeling better after a good cry!

Thank you msbklyn. Feeling better being back in my routine. It's nice to have dreams - your husband was letting you know he is still around. These things can throw you of when it happens unexpectedly. (((Big hugs)))

    Today I feel grateful. Grateful for my dog Blue (Blue Jean Baby Queen, Prettiest girl I've ever seen). Grateful I'm still kickin'. Grateful I'm finally taking responsibility for my health. Grateful I own my home. Grateful for good friends and neighbors who watch over me. Grateful to God for His everlasting love and patience with me. Grateful I survived the 10 years since my wife of 30 years...
