When my husband first died I just had a tough time going into our bedroom so I changed arrangements in it moved other furniture from other rooms, redecorated....even in my living room so I did feel it did help....

I think what ever helps somewhat etc. does help in any way

My love passed away in our bedroom and I've not changed a thing. I even recreated her messy nightstand after cleaning off the medicine bottles. Her shoes are still by the door and I still find her makeup table a mystery I'll never decipher. I can't even bring myself to cancel her cell phone. As I write this, I look around and see her echoes everywhere. I hear her laughing and can almost feel her arms around me looking over my shoulder as she used to. I am still madly in love with this woman. I suppose at some point my life will have to morph but I have no way of imagining how at present. As usual, everyone's posts have helped so much see and understand this whole process. Love to all.

I just completed a bathroom renovation removing the garden tub he liked & replaced it with a large shower. I also had one of the two sinks removed. I know it probably sounds ridiculous but it always made mad sad to look at his sink. It is hard to transition from us to me but I do love my bathroom.

My husband spent two months dying in our home. The first thing I did after he passed was redecorate the bedroom and family room. He spent his hospice time in our family room and passed there, and I 'slept' on the couch next to him every night during that time. For me, once he died, seeing that couch and the room as it was was incredibly painful.

Also, with regards to our bedroom, I woke up after his first surgery to him aspirating in our bedroom, so I couldn't walk into that room as it was without the memories. I understand the need and the redecorating has helped me tremendously. You do what you have to do. Make it yours. It is the one thing that has made being in 'our' home tolerable.

My husband passed in a hospital bed in our living room six weeks ago. Still very hard to even walk in that room. I usually slept on the couch the last month of his life so I find myself sitting there now and saying a prayer for him and then usually cry. No changes made yet but I know in time I will move furniture around. Just need to take it all a day at a time, take deep breaths and trust healing will come in time. Right now, my heart feels broken.

My husband died overseas. I moved to a new cottage built just for me. I kept the bedroom furniture, just got a new full size bed in order to fit everything into a small place. I kept a few drawers of his clothes and his slippers on his side of the bed just like before. I decorated the place with pictures that he liked. It is so hard to decide what to keep, everything has its memory.

I lost my husband last August. I have been doing many house projects including redoing my bedroom completely. I guess keeping busy helps. Easter was hard because it was the first Easter without him and we have no children. So, it was just me and my dogs.

Luckily, I am active and get out to exercise a lot.

Cliff died in our bed. It wasn't until I redecorated the bedroom to change it from "our room" to "my room" that I finally got any decent sleep in there. I never was able to sleep on his side of the bed, but it did help to change things.

I made small changes in the rest of the house -- I had to pace it because of my kids. It would have been impossible anyway to get rid of everything that was Cliff's as it was all "ours" - everything purchased or kept as a matter of joint decisions for 30 years. I am going back in a few weeks to clear the last of those things out and sell my/our home. I am dreading it....

Our bedroom is the one room I haven't been able to make changes in. That is where I found him when he collapsed and where he was when the paramedics transported him to the hospital. I painted the rest of the house, added some new flooring in the living room and family room and new baseboards. But changing anything in our bedroom is not something I am able to do. Seeing his hats hanging on the wall keep him close to me. Crazy I know, but just my feelings right now.
