Widows & Widowers Support Group
This community is dedicated to those who have lost a husband, wife, or partner. Anything is open for discussion here, with the hope that we can focus on grief, bereavement, life after loss, and continuing on after a great loss.
You should be safe.

I wish we didn't have to worry about things like this, but it is just a sad fact. And yes always be vigilant about friending people. If it doesn't feel right in your gut than your gut is telling you something.
HUGS and hope it doesn't happen to you again. Love to thom too!
Diane
I HIGHLY recommend setting your Chat to Friends Only so the creepier lurkers on DS, who wait to find an unsuspecting member online, can't suddenly try and drag you into a Chat session. If you do get a creep in Chat, don't panic. You can copy the chat session and forward that as an abuse report, and that person will be dealt with by DS (i.e., banned).
Your Journal entries and Photos are set individually when you write them/upload them. Those you can even set so that only you can seee them. That is handy sometimes if you have to stop half-way through writing them. You can change the settings on a Journal entry after you've finished it.
A word of caution: If your Profile is set to Friends only, then anyone not on your Friends list won't have very much to go on should you request to be their friends, nor can they hug you. If I receive a friend request and I don't recognize the name as being in our group (or any of the other groups I belong to), then I leave it pending for awhile to see if the person posts here. Alternatively, you can send them a hug and ask them why they requested to be friends.
There are some creepy people who wander through here, just like everywhere else. At the same time, you probably don't want to completely dismiss every request you get.
If you get a request that you feel may be a predator or spammer or scammer, please report it. You can report it to DS using the "Report Abuse" link at the bottom of the webpage, or you can send me a link to the person's Profile and I will report them via the CL channels. You do not need to respond to their messages or friend requests, but please provide a link for me to their Profile so I can quickly take a look and send it on to DS Admin staff.
As I have said before, it is prudent not to give all your identity details, or your deceased spouse's identity details, on a forum like this. I never use my last name here, specific dates, nor my children's names. I give enough information on my Profile and elsewhere so that people understand who I am as a person and what my issues are and have been.
Only give what information and allow as much access as you are comfortable with. You may also find that over time, as you are more familiar with the site and how everything works, that you may be more comfortable allowing more or less access. That is okay, too.
I hope that helps.
Love and Hugs,
Martha
