Working in a school is a great way to get your mind off your personal life. I taught school for many years and sometimes I didn't think about homelife until the kids left at 3 PM. Also, their little loving faces are great healers. I hope you get this job!! Good luck, Nichola37!

Nicola, you are such an inspiration to all of us, I only hope I can achieve some progress as the days go by- it's very difficult to find hope and joy for me at this time, I think I am still in the disbelief stage. Please keep us updated, I will keep you in my thoughts, Christine (from San Diego)

At midnight last night I went across the street to explain to the young men of the house that they need to stop gunning the motors on their cars. I told them it was late and that the people in the neigborhood needed their rest to go school and work the next day.

Noisy car guy #1 said they weren't making noise. I said that my windows were rattling and I could see them in their cars. And, that they made noise all day and all night. I told him that I was concerned that in a few weeks when the windows were open no one was going to be sleeping at all.

He said no one had complained before. I said all the neighbors talk about it all the time and that we were trying to be tolerant because we do understand what it's like to be young and have hot cars and want to hang around with your friends, but enough is enough -- they need to try to understand us too. This is a quiet residential neigborhood. (Unfortunately we are cycling through a crop of teenage boys)

He said they'd try to be more accomodating. I said I hoped so because the exhaust system on his car sure didn't look street legal. He looked shocked and I said that just because I look like an old lady doesn't mean I don't know anything.

I'm writing this because this would have been the job of my 6 foot 5, 280 lb husband. But, I'm on my own and I can't stand the noise anymore and no one else has the nerve to say anything. And seriously, what worse thing can happen to me than already has. Another step away from him and on my own.

Much luck and congratulations on this step in your life. You are such an inspriation and you will handle the kids and work just fine. You will find strength and independence. I did it for many years as a single mom and worked in the school where my children went so I could be off when they were. I learned to do all on my own. Now that I lost my new husband, I need to find that same independence again.
