Leftover pork chops tonight. My wife did the cooking, she worked from home so I was spoiled because she always liked to have dinner ready. For the first year and a half my son and I mostly ate fast food and pizza, all I could cook was pasta and grilled cheese. Since then I've learned how to cook thanks to the internet. I tell people chef Ramsey taught me how to cook a steak. Usually they ask "you've met him?" and I say "no, you tube".

Yup, evenings suck.

Hi to everyone tonight.! I actually cooked a small meal for my son and myself. It has been several days sinse I "cooked" very much of anything. I get so tired of cooking, I need to try something new, it wouldn't hurt me any to get my butt in gear and do something constructive, but you know my heart just needs to be "in" it before I can do about anything anymore. There is so much that needs to be done around here, the weeds are taking over what is left of my flower beds and watering always needs to be done. Don't know why I tried to have flowers this year, I guess seeing others' yards with their pretty flowers made me want to do that. I'm am trying to get a better attitude about life and the need to try to move on. My gosh, it is so hard to put on a good face when I don't care if I even have makeup on !!!lol My youngest son, who lives here at home for now, went out to hang with some friends for the evening. He lives here but upstairs is his domain and really I don't see him that much, but at least he is here most of the time and if I need him, then he is nearby. I hate it for those of you who have no one at home to talk to. I am fortunate and I know that. It doesn't fill this void in my life but I'm not alone totally. I tell myself that I need to get out and maybe attend some grief counciling groups, or just leave here for awhile just to detach. I want to move on but I don't know how just yet. I have many hobbies I use to love to do and really have no excuse for not doing them except I feel stuck in this groove and the desire isn't there. I think I need more time to let the nightmare of losing him mellow-out and learn how to move on without him. I can't change what happened so I need to accept it and at least try to get out and go somewhere, preferably with people who know what it like to lose a dear one. There are alot of use out there, just reading all these posts tell me that. Sad, lonely,damaged souls who are trying to do just what I am doing, to cope, learn, and know that this is a place we can come to vent, as I have done many times myself. Someone, somewhere knows us, "gets us" and can add their thoughts too. I keep thinking that as time goes by, I will get stronger and more able to live as near normal,(whatever normal is) life. I plan to go grocery shopping tomorrow, to make out my list and hope I don't forget it lol. To get out maybe a little more and go shopping/ looking, and see what's in style now. Yeah, it's lonely, but I can do it. It's better than staying here and thinking about how miserable I am. I can do that when I get back home. lol I hope everyone has as good of an evening as possible. I understand, Danny cooked for me every night,. I haven't cooked since he passed on May 17th. I avoid the kitchen as much as possible. We used to sit and chat every night about our day while he cooked, the silence is so hard. Sending hugs

I'm glad you are at least eating. I have completely lost my appetite since my beloved passed away in March. Losing that hasn't done me any harm as at least I gone down from 98 pounds on March 14th. to todays 80. I have some porridge for breakfast and coffee and that does me for the rest of the day. There are lots of clothes now which are too large and will go to charity.

Come on JonDoc! Eat a bit more, even if you don't want too!

It has been almost 19 months since I lost my husband, the man I planned to live the rest of my life with. I'm only 46 and my life feels empty, lonely, and miserable. I get up in the morning by myself, go to work by myself, watch t.v. by myself, go to bed by myself...it's the worst lonliness I've ever felt.

This topic is so relevant. Just really hard to eat alone night after night. My husband loved to barbecue, and I would be fixing dishes in the kitchen. My neighbor and I had been going out to eat on Saturday nights for the past year. She lost her husband ten years ago. Now, she has cancer and can hardly leave her house. back to square one. I joined a meet up group of ladies and met them for lunch yesterday. Some ladies were divorced, and I realize now how alone they are too. Glad we all have each other and a place to share...

Oh My, once again I can sure relate to all of you. Larry was a wonderful cook & loved to barbeque . I think I have only turned
on my stove 3 times since I moved last Sept. You eat, but nothing
sounds or taste as good.

I haven't cooked a 'real' meal since before my husband went into the hospital...my son is happy with a frozen pizza or fast food, and I usually eat prepared foods from the grocery store or a burger from DQ or something like that...I wouldn't even bother if not for my son...for me? Honestly? I really don't care anymore...

It's a few days short of 2.5 years since my husband passed and I cooked out of necessity not pleasure anymore...He used to be a great cook but after he had kidney failure in 2009, he was not cooking at the same level as he could previously. A month before he had Heart failure in 2012 , we actually argued about his cooking because to me I saw it that something was wrong and that maybe he had had some damage done from the kidney failure even though he was suppose to be back in good health.. No one knew that he had Cancer and that it was spreading and affecting him... I also was a good cook and he used to compliment every meal no matter how simple. I missed that ...
We used to cook and entertain specially through the summer months at a campground and some friends wonder why I don't come over and cook for them as we used to do. They don't get it. Last week end they were telling other people what a good cook I was and how we should get together at the campground . I just smile and nod, I won't commit as the pleasure is not there. Week Ends are the worst!

I never really liked to cook. I always joked that I'm not Betty Crocker. My husband and I used to take turns cooking dinner. Since he passed away last October, I have lost all desire to spend time in the kitchen. I eat frozen food I can microwave or throw in the oven. I don't have the appetite I used to and I know I have lost weight. I have my daughters so I am not alone, but I am still so lonely without my best friend. Just know that you are not alone in feeling like this.

I have only cooked three or four times since my husband passed. And extremely simple things at that. He used to collect recipe books with the intent that when he retired he would try to cook different recipes. I would tease him and say good he could have supper on when I got home from work. He was forced to retire due to his health and just slowly had less and less energy and stamina. Now I am left with a ton of cookbooks that I will never use. I loved to cook for him. but the past several months his appetitie decreased and I ended up throwing out most of what I cooked. Now I have no reason to cook. Just so unfair. Hugs to all Michele

My Morey was a gourmet cook, amazing. He always wanted to be a chef but his parents insisted that he join a union [plumbers and pipe fitters] and bring home a good salary. He never got to live his dream of being the chef he wanted to be.

He was a wonderful provider and took care of me and the kids really well but he was an even better cook!

I miss his company on a Saturday night of Sunday afternoon when he'd be so busy in the kitchen making the most amazing dishes for all of us!

His special knives, pots and pans all sit idle now........it's so lonely without him!

Every meal time is hard but weekends are especially hard, Mike and I went out a lot friday and saturday nights but I don't do that anymore. I can' stand the vision of walking into a resturant and knowing exactly where we sat the last time we ate there. UGH!! My son won't eat any of the foods we ate as a family so cooking is pretty much a waste of money, we just eat leftovers from family or sandwhiches or maybe heat up soups. Its just not right eating with out him. When I do go out with my sister and her husband Im sad because they all sit together as a family and I sit across from an empty chair.
