I talk about my husband too. Sometimes I mention that he recently died - sometimes I don't - it depends. I don't think I could use the work "late" however - I just couldn't say it that way.

I have just recently used that term out of necessity in the conversation and yes, it was strange. I don't think I want to use it much.

To people outside the community, I do not say my "late"...none of their business. I have reached the point where I do not need to tell my story to a bunch of nosey people. I wear my rings...which I thought would be enough to fend off questions. peace..Kaaren

I talk about my husband too. I will also reply he died recently just like Mgould. Sometimes I say my deceased husband but I really don't like that.

I talk about Gerry like he is just away and will be back. I talk about him in the present tense. I can't bring myself to talk about him like he isn't here. I have a hard time using, Late husband, or deceased or widow. I think most people that don't know me would think he is still here with me.

I'm with msoucie - partly for protection, partly because I get wistful - I talk about him in the present tense as if he were just away temporarily. He himself referred to it as his "long trip" when he was buying me my car and was explaining to the salesman why he wanted to make so sure that I would have a safe vehicle and prepaid maintenance.

I don't think I can ever bring myself to say that term. I don't like it, and it makes me feel weird. I guess I am not ready. I don't think I will ever be ready. I wear my rings and I act like I am still married. I don't want other people to know at times, and I try to say as little as possible. You would be surprised to know how many people know. I talk about Mark so often - and sometimes it makes me cry and sometimes it makes me laugh. I don't explain to people that he passed away unless it's absolutely necessary ..........I wear my rings..........I am still married..........and Mark was never "late" for anything, so I don't think I can ever use that term !! LOL
Still haven't gotten used to the "W" word either.............so, I'm Mrs. Mark E................or Christine E...........they both work for me !!!

I also do not tell people that my wife has passed. I wear my wedding ring and to those that don't know it doesn't need to be part of a casual conversation at this point. I cannot imagine me ever refering to Rene' in the past to people that are not part of our lives.

I still talk about Don and what our life was like together. I just speak as I feel. Sometimes I do say he passed away or died a couple years ago but only if I feel it's necessary to the conversation. I would just let it be as you're talking be yourself. The more we think and try to figure things out the more confused we make ourselves crazy. Know what I mean? Sharon
