Hi everyone. Brand new to this board. My boyfriend just passed on Friday night. He had a long fight with colon cancer. We were actively together as boyfriend and girlfriend for 7 years and then a year after he was diagnosed, he was still very ill and we broke up. That was three years ago. But we never stopped loving each other. We kept in contact. We texted every day, spoke on the phone and I visited him about 2 or 3 times a month. He was not able to work and was housebound for the most part. He lived with his mom. He was my best friend. Up until about 3 weeks ago he was still functioning very well and I never thought he would pass so soon. His decline was extremely fast. Even after going to the wake and funeral I still can't believe he is gone and that I will never see or speak to him again. I have suffered many losses in mylife. My parents are long gone....but this is different. I am so sad and heartbroken. I do have a good support group at work and my friends. How long until my denial wears off? I know it is still fresh and raw. But why am I having such a hard time accepting this?
With time, the full reality of what has happened will hit you (and after it hits you, it will probably throw you down the stairs!). We on this board will be there for you when it happens...........we have all been there and most of us are still there.
