This community is dedicated to those who have lost a husband, wife, or partner. Anything is open for discussion here, with the hope that we can focus on grief, bereavement, life after loss, and continuing on after a great loss.
to everyone here: i'm imagining a big lodge where we all could meet up for a long weekend or whenever we wanted to appear for some shared companionship - I imagine it like mountain/ wilderness camp when I was a child (but not as forced and uncomfortable as when I was a child, please!)
so in my imagination it would have all the rustic amenities of the wilderness camp - we would have to tough it out here for a few nights - sleep in cozy sleeping bags in bunk beds - walk by the lakeside - freeze in the morning to remember and honor our unending pain! - chat in person- pat each other on the back -
we would make a group feast around a huge firepit at sunset each night - make a favorite dish in honor of our loved ones for everyone to enjoy (I would make juicy, charred turkey burgers, roasted potatoes and pop open a bottle of red wine for a bubbly wine spritzer). Recount stories about our loves and hopes for our sorrows. Probably see if a s'more tasted as good still.
one rainy day we would have a craft afternoon and find we could all sculpt perfectly well out of clay a likeness of our love and what they represented to us.
we would grow and nurture an edible harvest in honor of our loved ones, and make a feast day on the last day (quick growing plants here unless we stay for a season instead - imagination is flexible of reality is not) and that day would become our annual day of honor in their memory and of our healing.
there would be a little chapel too, surrounded by the beautiful chapel that is the wooded solace of nature, in which we could seek peace and prayer in our time together.
Since I cannot thank you enough or in person for the strength and wisdom you supply me - especially over the weekends which carry such a weight of loneliness - I invite you to my camp of imagination; please join me here. nanne

I mean, other organizations have yearly conventions in different locations around the country/ around the world - so in reality, it could happen, right?!
Keep the thought in your heart, dear friends - we will meet somewhere!!!
That reminds me of a local trout stream Linda and I used to go to. It was at a dam at one of the area lakes and it would get stocked with tout every few months. We would get there just at sunrise. You could feel the cool mist coming off the water and a light fog floating across the top. The only sound would be the occasional trout rising to pop a fly or gnat on top of the water, then you would know they are biting.
Talk about peaceful, sometimes we would just sit and listen to the natural sounds for a while before fishing. I would give anything for another trip with her like that.

the water as I used to do as a kid. Just some mindless
activity that involves no worry or stress or thoughts about
the past, present or future.
But I would not mind at all to have my "fellow soldiers in
grief " in attendance. It would be nice to sit with people
that fully understand what I am feeling or saying without
rolling their eyes or making a hasty exit. We wouldn't even
have to have conversations about grief. We would already
know what each other is thinking more or less.
We could then focus on the beauty of the birds or trees or
the sky or whatever. That would be a big welcome change
for me.
My food choices lately are lousy. I don't have much to offer
in that regard as I was not the cook in our family. I would
probably revert back to childhood and simply pour some
peanuts in a soda or something. I use to live on those
things when I was a kid.

We used to stay on the western shore of Lake Tahoe. It's one of my favorite places on the planet. The air is so clear that at night you can see so many stars you can't tell where the constellations are - like God went crazy with the celestial glitter. Very good fishing there, too, as I recall.
Unless y'all want to head across the pond and visit us in England....
