Valentines Day is not just for couples - it's for friends and family too.
Remember being kids and giving out cards at school? At Christmas I was so overwhelmed with work - working 2 jobs - and house and car problems - and when I showed up at work at my school before xmas break about 5 different people had gotten me candy or a gift and I felt bad because I hadn't thought of it too.

Now that Valentines Day is here it gives me a chance to get a little something for the people I work with who have been so nice to work with.

My husband died on November 6th. Valentines will be very sad for me. We would be celebrating our 25th anniversary on Valentines day. It is now a day I dread.

I too am still in the grieving process and new to the site. I really need some support to move on. We were together 40 years and I cant seem to move past that March 22nd day in 2009 when he was taken from me...I really need help moving on. To complicate things I am left alone to raise the child we adopted who is now 8. We raised our other 7 children together and I was a stay at home wife and mother...now I am suddenly a single parent for the first time. I feel I am doing a terrible job with him since I am so sad all the time. I spend my day wishing to turn the clock back or waiting for the door to open to have my soul mate return...neither will ever happen. I'm sorry if I posted in the wrong place but I am really needing help moving past that March day. Valentines day is a sad day now. there will be no poem hand written, no single rose, no special dance or song and five days after would have been his birthday and there will be no greman choc cake or special present to wrap and no special brithday hug or kiss. I really need to find meaning for life again.

It's funny, but all week it's been killing me to hear the valentine's day adds, etc., because I always told my wife, who I lost this Jan. 13th, that it's a fake holiday created by greeting card companies, blah blah blah, and she would roll her eyes, lovingly, especially when telling other people how I felt. But, we always got each other cards and little small but meaningful items. Even just a more, how can I say, "meaningful", "I love you" said to each other, or perhaps it's to say that it was said on Valentines with a little more thought than the usual daily I love you. I'm dreading tomorrow I really don't know what to do.

This is my 3rd Valentines Day alone. The first two I insisted on spending it by myself, this year it will be a bit different due to family needs but I think I'm ok with that. I have bought red tulips and arranged them in a vase next to my favourite photo of us together.
I received a card from my son's fiancee (she is in the USA, I am in the UK) wishing me 'a wonderful valentines day'. Initially I thought this was not appropriate and verging on insensitive, then I read the comment from 'Mgould' and decided possibly I was wrong, maybe it could also be for friends and family too. I'm not 100% convinced and I still think the wish for a WONDERFUL valentines day was going a bit too far but I'll give her the benefit of the doubt!
I am a little confused though - do you in the USA celebrate valentines on 13th? There are a lot of posts with that date but in the UK it is definately celebrated on 14th.
Whichever it is, I wish everyone on DS happy and peaceful memories.

LoranSw, I can feel your pain. The 14th is the most special number to me. Our wedding anniversary, my birthday, and the birth of my daughter all occurred on the 14th of different months. And, Joe and I reached our 14th anniversary before he died. I will be thinking of you and sending you warm wishes for peace tomorrow. I don't know about your weather where you are, but it is BEAUTIFUL in Florida, and I plan to spend some time outside by myself, soaking up some sunshine while it is still cool, too. I hope you can, too. Maybe reading something uplifting would be a good idea, too.

I want to thank you so much for your words. This is the first without my Beloved Pat. I workedl the 14th last year and I came home to a home- made pineapple upside down cake my beloved made for me from scratch. He took a chair into the kitchen as he wasn' feeling strong and sat when he needed to. Altho not a baker he made it for ME. Who would ever have thought that one month and 3 days later he would pass away. I sent cards to our girls and my 95 year old Dad, might have a glass of wine tomorrow night. I have a daughter's birthday this Thursday then the one year on St Patrick's Day, Pat;s day, then all of the "firsts" will be over. I miss my Darling boy so much. Hugs to all of us, Wendy

Thank you for your kind reminder! It has been a tough week, our 31 anniversary was on Feb 8th. I got flowers from my daughter and went out to dinner with her and the twins. Today, I bought myself a small cherry pie. Dinner tomorrow is with the twins (15 months old) and a sleepover! They are such a joy and are the best Valentines :)
