A New Year without my husband

Happy New Year are the words on everyone's lips at the moment. It's amazing in those few words how they register a major change in one's life. It means a new year without my husband not being by my side, and enjoying our kids. It means a new year of working to move forward, while carrying on the principles that he left behind. A new year of milestones and anniversaries, that will be celebrated differently.

I miss him so much. I want to have an attitude of gratefulness. I celebrated the New Year with our boys at home. It was definitely different. We always did something together as a family. I miss him being here to complete our family unit.

I constantly pray for guidance and peace, and the strength to help our children. I am a little over 4 months, with the 5 month anniversary closing in fast next week.

The New Year is definitely a bittersweet one.

Holidays make the missing him worse become it brings memories of happiness from the past. I wish you well this new year knowing how hard it is to deal with this loss. I pray coming here to read and share will help. Sharon

I understand your feelings. Last night I was thinking that I was glad that 2013 was over, but I felt very sad starting a new year without my wife Laurie and knowing I really need to try and start moving forward. But that's hard because it means truly accepting that they are gone.

Russ I have to echo your feelings. While I am very anxious to put 2013 behind me it is with great sadness I face a year that my husband did not live to see. I hear everyone tell me I need to be happy because he would want that and hope to find some happiness in 2014.

What you have written is an echo of what is in all of our hearts. You have expressed it so nicely.
I do hope this new year will being all of us some healing, some inner peace and help us to find meaning in life.

I agree and relate to all the statements here. A new year it is... 'happy' is questionable. I have a book called Healing is a Choice...I believe to some extent that is true. Healing as well as happiness are choices at some point. I miss Chris so and I no longer say such and such a year has got to be better as I had said that for 2011, 2012 and 2013 and each year was only worse. 2014 will be whatever it will be...ONLY God knows what it holds. As for me I am 6 months in and still hurt immensely for my love BUT I am going to try to be intentional in choosing healing and happiness and most importantly to trust and rely on God...that is to the best I am able without being fake.
