It would be 5 years in a few days since my husband's passing. I was thinking, our parents passed away and they are still our parents, why our spouses are only till death do us part? It doesn't make sense to me. I still miss him and I still have trouble eating alone. I still have trouble with too much time on my hands in the evening.

The marriage covenant ends upon the death of one of the spouses, because in Biblical times death was the one and only acceptable reason for remarriage. Most modern law is based upon the Bible. The physical and legal aspects of the marriage may end at the death of a spouse, that doesn't mean that it never existed. It's not an annulment, stating it never existed. My husband, even though he is deceased was, is and will always be my husband, that will never change.

We will always miss them, no matter how much time passes. Not a day goes by that I don't think of my husband several times during the day. He is always on my mind, and it has been seven years. Yes, I agree, eating alone and finding ways to occupy all our "alone" time is still not easy. I have to wonder if I will ever completely adjust to single life. It is lonely and not much fun. Sending hugs your way, Roxanne

Thank you all for your replies. Being alone takes getting used to since I had never been alone completely in my life.

Hi Silverfoxwife, I lost my husband almost one year ago. I also have trouble eating alone and have too much time on my hands. People say it gets better, but honestly, I feel like I'm having a harder time now than when he first passed away. It's good to know there are others in the same boat and hopefully sharing will help.

Cheryl, this site helped me move forward. I hope it will help you too. It will take time. I moved over the most difficult part of losing my husband, selling my home and try to figure out life as a new person. It took me 3 years. I am still trying to get used to be a "single" person, not easy. People say try to make more friends, not easy for me, making progress one step at a time slowly. Take care and well wishes to you and all the friends here.

Today I feel grateful. Grateful for my dog Blue (Blue Jean Baby Queen, Prettiest girl I've ever seen). Grateful I'm still kickin'. Grateful I'm finally taking responsibility for my health. Grateful I own my home. Grateful for good friends and neighbors who watch over me. Grateful to God for His everlasting love and patience with me. Grateful I survived the 10 years since my wife of 30 years...
