I am so sorry for your loss. 5 Months is a hard time, and so are the next few months also. I am at just a few days over a year and its still hard. Read all you can and go to all the group meetings you can find, it will help.

Always the memories...I'm sure Charlie was with you, watching the corn harvest. He was probably beaming with pride that YOUR (his and yours) land could still produce such bounty. And, I'm sure he will find a way to allow you to remain on that land, because he loves you both.

I have just started walking again and I used to do it with my wife. At 16 months I miss her so but she would be proude of me moving on and attempting to have a life. I was walking in the woods today and a deer walked right past me. She would have loved to see it.

I so identify with your story of growing things, tending them for so long, and then the harvest. We have 3 acres, not a farm, but Joe loved to plant and harvest. His fenced off garden where he so proudly grew his veggies now sits full of weeds. I'm not interested in growing a garden because I cannot be out in the heat. So I look at it and just remember how much he loved it and how pretty it was.

Growing things is such a closeness to God. I think we feel very connected to our land, our loved ones, and our God. I'm glad to hear you want to stay on the land. I am, too, and have been here alone now for almost 3 years. I never want to leave. My roots are here. Thank you for sharing your story.

I always would think of the song Turn Turn Turn when I would see something like your corn harvest. For me it was the seasons. Spring with it's rebirth, Summer with it's long lazy days that I would miss him, fall when it's cool crisp and colorful..(that was his favorite time), and winter. expecially winter. I would think so much of all the things we would never do again...And could not believe he was not here to do anything ever aagin with me....So now I try my best to thnk of the seasons we DID have, remember them, and the sun filled days we shared. HOW WE LIVED...HOW WE DID LIVE.

TO SEASONS, THE BEAUTIFUL seasons in the sun...remember them..they are what LIFE is made of. When you see the corn, I bet you can see him there...and you always will.....

Julie, I understand your timing life by the passing of the seasons. I live in the country and see the crops every day. I am very focused in on the seasons, the weather, the coming fall and winter. I measure time spent by the seasons also. There is a special connection to those who live on the land. In some ways it is so difficult to see the next year's crops come and go and in other ways it is comforting. I am so sorry for your loss and hope you will always see Charlie in the land he loved so well. Peace. Darleen
