Tomorrow will be 2 years since my husband Ron passed away from COPD. I well remember the first few weeks after his passing. I thought I was having a heart attack. the pressure in my chest hurt but I knew deep down inside it is called grief. Slowly the pressure went away but the tears didnot. I would wake up in the middle of the night and come to Daily Strength and just read everyone and anyone's posts. I just had to know I was not alone. One night I posted a message while crying and within minutes received replies letting me know I was not alone. I truly feel Daily Strength showed me the way. How to slowly walk down this tragic path. I learned so much from others walking with me. To be knid to yourself. Some day you will smile again. Now it is my turn to return thr life saving lessons I have learned. Be kind to yourself. Your loved one would want to know you are trying the very best you can. You are the only person you will live with for the rest of your life. You will always be there for you. Treat yourself. Buy yourself a new lipstick or something that makes you feel good. Even if it is for just today. I promise you that one day YOU will smaile again and actually feel happy. I miss Ron every day and even had some tears this morning as I reminded him he still is the love of my life. But I am enbracing my new life. I never would have imagined that I would one day like living by myself. Just me and my little dog. My life is full. Different but full. Our son had to go for therepy after Ron died. It just broke him up to loose his Dad but he is doing great now though he too still and always will miss Dad. I really do not think I will ever experience anything that painful again. But it made me strong and my heart breaks for those who are new to this life experience. Please take your left arm and put it on your right shoulder. Now take your right arm and put it on your left shoulder. That is me giving you a hug. Thank you everyone fromĀ Daily Strength! love, Diane

Old Hillbilly Wisdom:Your fences need to be horse-high, pig-tight and bull-strong.Keep skunks, bankers, and politicians at a distance.Life is simpler when you plow around the stump.A bumble bee is considerably faster than a John Deere tractor.Words that soak into your ears are whispered, not yelled. The best sermons are lived, not preached. If you don't take the time to do it right, you'll find the...

I'm fortunate to have good family support..My granddaughter a few months back, said when I was having a bad day..just think grandma if you and grandpa hadn't got married I my mom and aunts and cousins wouldn't be here.. Kind of put things in a new light, as too why we are here..
I continue to miss and love Dennis, everyday..but I know I'll see him again, I've had too many signs from my skeptic not too believe that...
I always think of the song by Garth Brooks..(The Dance).I might have missed the pain, but I would have missed the dance.... I'm glad my dance card was full...;-)
Happy trails and many hugs...Gail....
This is a poem I have always loved, and worthwhile to repost it:
Love After Love - Poem by Derek Walcott
The time will come
when, with elation
you will greet yourself arriving
at your own door, in your own mirror
and each will smile at the other's welcome,
and say, sit here. Eat.
You will love again the stranger who was your self.
Give wine. Give bread. Give back your heart
to itself, to the stranger who has loved you
all your life, whom you ignored
for another, who knows you by heart.
Take down the love letters from the bookshelf,
the photographs, the desperate notes,
peel your own image from the mirror.
Sit. Feast on your life.
I'm so glad to hear your positivity and those of many responding to this thread. It gives me hope that maybe someday the tears will slowdown and I won't feel like I'm drowning. And maybe I'll enjoy food and sleep and living alone, and maybe even an occasional smile.
Love and Hugs,
Martha
