I spent part of yesterday being angry. I don't beat myself up for it. I'm pretty good at letting my emotions happen the way they need to.
Mostly I have lingering guilt that maybe I should have done more for him on his last day. I can't go back and fix it, but it gnaws at me still. That's part of my anger. I don't know if it will ever go away.
For no apparent reason I can identify I become very sad or angry over my change in life. It confuses me, because I have found happinesz in my new life. Sharon
I have the same thoughts about how unfair it was/is. Cliff was only 55, our last conversation the night before that terrible morning, was about all of our future plans together. Our younger son was getting ready to graduate high school, so I totally understand Laurie's frustration, too. And my sons are both special needs guys - both on the autism spectrum. It's like I want to scream sometimes "Wasn't that enough to hit us with?? You had to take Cliff too??!"
Debbie, I don't think there is anything wrong with being angry over what feels like a personal injustice. I get that it's not directed at anyone in particular - I always just use the term "the Universe" because I'm not really even mad at God anymore. I know there is nothing I can do about it, which makes you feel powerless, too. But it will never be fair, and I would never have chosen this path willingly.
I think for women in particular, anger and fear and guilt can get all knotted up together. It does for me, and I sometimes have a very hard time separating out those emotions. Those negative emotions can feed each other and it's like fuel on the fire, just making it worse. When I finally let the guilt go, it was a big relief, and helped me contend with the fear and anger better. I still have my fears and my anger, and probably always will to some extent, but I don't buy into the guilt anymore.
I hope this makes sense....

So I allow myself to feel this way when the need arises, then I move on again. Keep plugging on each day.
You are not alone.
