We used to go there once a month or so...it was so hard beening by myself this time...my daughter said you should have waited for me, but i can't avoid all the places carl and i used to go to. i cried in the car, at least i didn't cry in the pizza joint. my husband died almost three months ago and i m missing him a lot.

Pahatfi that took a lot of courage going to the pizza place. You crossed yet another hurdle of many in this journey. It has been almost eight months and when I go to a place that we used to frequent for the first time I still get a tear in my eye. Take care Kim

Pahatfi, it took a long time before I could go and eat in places that my husband and I frequented without getting upset. I would either cry after getting in the door or after leaving. However, it became easier as time went on; and it no longer bothers me. You should be proud of you. You have taken a big step, and it is very early in your grief journey. Yes, we miss them and always will. Roxanne

I did cry after I left, so hard not having him with me

I find it very hard to go out and eat or do anything alone. I feel even more alone than ever. I pickup food and bring it home. I would rather be home alone. I know this is not a good habit to get into, but at this point in my grief it is the best I can do. When I do go out, it is with a purpose or a plan. I do what I need to do, then back home. It just is so hard to sit by myself in a place where couples and families are going on with life. My life feels like it is over.

eating out alone is very hard for me...I used to get my husband his food since he was handicapped. both at family dinners and at buffet meals. it hit really hard the first family dinner without him. I still haven't been back to golden corral and I doubt that I will go back. some places are just to hard to face.

As others have said it took tremendous courage and inner strength to do what you did. Those places that serve as such powerful triggers now will gradually be easier to manage. You are moving forward one small step at a time and that is all anyone can do. Places 4 years ago that caused me so much pain now bring back very very special memories.

Today I feel grateful. Grateful for my dog Blue (Blue Jean Baby Queen, Prettiest girl I've ever seen). Grateful I'm still kickin'. Grateful I'm finally taking responsibility for my health. Grateful I own my home. Grateful for good friends and neighbors who watch over me. Grateful to God for His everlasting love and patience with me. Grateful I survived the 10 years since my wife of 30 years...
