I went to the local commissary yesterday. By local, I mean 2.5 hours away. I hadn't been there before. Usually, my husband and I do combat grocery shopping at Walmart.
Anyway, as I'm walking the aisles I was completely thrown by how civilized everything was. The store was neat, clean, the carts were in good working order and the shelves were stocked. More importantly, everyone was quietly going about their shopping. People were not ripping open packages and eating their way through the store. Women were not using their shopping carts to commit vehicular manslaughter, they were not performing WWF moves to get the last box of Cocoa Puffs, the kids were not practicing for the next Punt, Pass and Kick competion in the bread aisle and best of all someone actually brought my groceries tot he car for me (I had forgotten how nice that was).
Perhaps that is what I miss most about the military community, the civility and orderliness of it all. That is not to say that it is a peaceful nirvana, I've seen some brutal parking space fights in the commissary parking lots, but all in all it beats combat shopping at Walmart.

LOL Yeah, I miss that too. About 5yrs ago, I was at a Super Target starting my Christmas shopeing and I came out of the store, my truck was broken into and my stereo was stolen. That was all that was gone, thank God I was just getting started. I sure do miss the BX

Such fond memories of the Base ExChange on the various bases I was on. Not only was it neat, well-stocked but cheaper also. Money was always tight in the military so shopping on base was such a treat. Sure wish I had retired instead of being told I was no longer needed. Booze was my downfall. Drank too much too often.

Yeah I agree that the base is a wonderful place to shop. Sometimes I forget and so I don't use it as much as I should, especially the commissary. I am lucky too cause I live just 15 minutes from the base. Thanks for the reminder of how good I still have it :)

My 6mo twin DD's are EBF and just started rice cereal on the first. Everything has been going fine except this morning one of them had a diaper rash (lots of redness around her anus). I read this as one of the signs of an allergy. BUT I did just buy a different brand diaper yesterday (which they have used randomly before w/no issues). Do you think its the cereal or the diaper? Im ready to start...
