YOU need to stand up!! Just like you did when you joined the military. I am JUST a wife. MY husband did serve in the viet era BUT you are the ONE who served. YOU need to allow yourself that joy of knowing you gave to your country. Don't hide behind it I am glad that you did serve right along with the other men and women who did. I thank YOU.

Hi there! I understand feeling like an imposter. You served during an "interesting" time for the army, for women, and for women in the army, and I'm willing to bet you saw plenty of psychological warfare. Not all of us see combat, but all of us served and supported this country. Stand up when you're ready! Strong and brave women like you paved the way for women my age to join with all but three military jobs open to us, and I for one, respect that deeply. Thank you.

I agree it is a great disservice to your fellow women and men in arms not to stand up and be recoginized for leading the way toward womens inclusion in the greatest military in the world. Your example may be just what some 16year old girl needs to make a better decision in her life than the mistake she is about to make. Be strong YOU are a leader.

All of these comments mean well, and I take nothing away from them at all. I do not stand up either, but for different reasons. You will stand when you are ready, and let that decision be yours alone. There are sights that are worse than actual combat. Please do not discount your effort, your comittment, or your family's sacrafice as you served. All are very much appreciated. Thank You,

Arfie....I understand where you come from. I am a man, Vietnam Vet and I rarely talk about my experience. I have no medals or awards from Nam. I cannot have any do to the nature of my service there. I never told my family of my short time in Nam cause I knew it would upset my mother and grandmother. As time went on, my parents and grandparents passed on. Now I just do not talk much about it. When telling my AA story at meetings I may mention my time in Nam but rarely. I am not a shame to mention it here though. I fell safe here and can talk about anything. People like Denny, his wife and WanderingVet all understand where I come from and have helped a lot.

I think if you can maybe get a little psychological help from the VA you may be able to get pass this. I think it is wonderful that you had the courage to enlist and serve, even if it was in Germany. Every person who served during the Nam era had a position to fulfill. Not everyone could serve in Nam. We needed peeps serving in Germany, in Japan, in Korea who could support those in Nam. Be as proud of your service as you are being an American. You did a wonder job. So want if you collect a 10% disability. No one needs to know that.

I OFTEN think of the UNrecognized service women gave (in ALL our wars) over to the VN war. I want to say .. you were in the service .. the service is ONE huge effort where EVERYONE is connected to its success. You did your military job .. as was asked of you. Had you been asked, you would have gone wherever they needed you.

You are a VETERAN .. of the Viet Nam War Era. That is a credit to you .. and I want to thank you ... women SAVED LIVES by the thousands ... and you did your part .. even from the other side of the planet.

As a woman who served in the Marines.... I want to let you know I am thankful for your service. It doesn't matter where we vets were given orders to be. Our post was our post, it was our place and time of duty. If you wore the uniform and served honorably, and you are now hurt as a result of your time in the service, then that disability rating is what you earned. As a Marine, I am here to tell you, do not be ashamed of the uniform you wore. The fact that you did serve, no matter where, brought honor to all your fellow serviceman and women all over the world.
I'm not saying you should hog any glory. I feel shy around combat vets in wheel chairs or have retired from the service w/ all those ribbons and metals. I didnt get anything. I never did any big thing in the Marines... I was just a regular Marine doing my duties. Trust me, I understand how you feel.
But we all wore the uniform... take some pride and honor in that at the minimum.
And yes, I too get frustrated when they assume that I'm not a vet and my spouse is a vet (and I have never had a spouse!). Maybe we should start wearing those hats all the guys wear, with our branch of service on it, etc. lol
