Why dont they allow men & women in the same barracks??? Or in the same shower???
I know when I got in from the field, covered in shit from head to toe. {no kidding, low-crawled thrue a cow pasture} The last thing I want is a queer watching me wash my nasty ass.
I know too that when the women come in from maneuvers, they dont want no "Aunt Butch" drooling at them when their trying to get cleaned up.
If they want fags in the Army, than I say fine. Just put them in their own barracks and they can shoot all the butt darts they want....lol

If a gay were to come clean during my time in the service, he would have had a broom stick put where the sun don't shine and then turned in. Particularly while serving in a combat zone. Say what you will about the courage and fighting ability of gays all you want, the fact is is that a gay man/woman is a distraction. And if you are in Afghanistan/Iraq right now, with all those roadside bombs going off and people shooting at you, the last thing you need is a distraction. I think Obama is doing this because he is in the process of denying the military all of their next generation weapons as being not needed and this will mean less and less enlistments. So he needs all the gays he can get into the services.

The other thing is simply this.....in the Navy, whether it be an aircraft carrier, destroyer or submarine, a ship is a crowded place with no where to go but over the side or out the tube. A gay aboard ship would be a distraction. They would have to set aside a time for them to shower or use the head together, away from the regular sailors. Too much of a distraction. Course you could probably man a ship completely with gays. Just paint it pink.

You're ASSuming that just because a man is gay, he'll want you. Whether you want to admit it or not, there are gay people in the military, right now. I'm willing to bet that there were probably gay people serving at the same time you all served, sleeping in the same barracks as you all, and showering in the same showers as you-- nasty asses and all.

The don't ask don't tell policy was put in place to protect homosexual soldiers and sailors from people like you, who discriminate against those who were (and are) willing to put their lives on the line for our country. I bet you wouldn't give a rat's ass if a "queer" were saving your asses from an IED.

I served in the Navy, and the bottom line is sex will happen, when that many people are in closed quarters. But I don't see any of you suggesting that those who engage in heterosexual activities be placed in their own barracks, even though sex in the barracks is a direct violation of the UCMJ.

I'm also willing to bet that the majority of the rumors you hear about President Obama granting homosexuals in the military the opportunity to get married is just that-- a rumor. And even if it isn't, how exactly is it hurting you?

While I was in the Navy, I was in an integrated division in boot camp, and I ended up bonding with one of the guys there. I not only think of him as my brother, but I'd be honored to have the opportunity to fight alongside him, because I know for a fact that he would have my back, and that he would do his job efficiently. He's a damn fine corpsman; he has medals and awards to prove it, and any one of you would be lucky to have his "queer" ass stitching you back together, should God forbid, something were to happen to any of you.

I never said that there shouldn't be any gays serving.. What I do want to see is the living quarters and showers are handled as if they were female. Your not going to put a man and a woman in the same shower, right??? Than why allow a gay man shower with a strait man??? It's not fare to us who are strait.......

While Flibbid has a valid point about gays having been serving for two centuries in our armed forces and showering, eating and sleeping with straights, the point is that with the don't ask don't tell policy is that you did not know who. Most times if someone was suspected, there were ways to find out for sure and most times that individual was gone soon after. By taking way the current policy, you are opening a door into the lives of those gays who have no idea what they will be getting into by coming clean. With gays out in the open, what do you think will happen, Flibb.....that they will be greeted with open arms and told "Welcome?" Gays will be allowed to openly live off-base with each other. No problem with that. As I always told those I knew where gay.....make one move towards me and you get a beating of a lifetime. Still holds true.

Because, Sarge, that would be extra money that could be used for something more important for the military. Men shower with men, and women shower with women. Also, if separate showers are gonna be allowed for homosexuals, then be prepared for other different racial/ethnic/lifestyle groups, etc., to want the same thing. Because it wouldn't be fair that homosexuals would be the only group to have their own showering quarters. Besides, you know the military isn't about providing unnecessary accomodations, simply because someone isn't pleased. We suck it up for the sake of the bigger picture.

Happy, as long as the person is doing their job, and not being flamboyant, and following the UCMJ, yes, they should be welcomed with open arms. Their sexual preference has nothing to do with their ability to do a job. Now, if a homosexual joins, and starts wearing his uniform in an indecent manner, or touching other members of his division/group/batallion inappropriately, then yes, they should be put out/dealt with, whatever. Because one of the main points of being in the military is uniformity. But the same holds true for heterosexuals. A straight man can't just go around groping female soldiers/sailors tits, just for the hell of it. And if he does, he should be punished to the full extent.

for what i'm about to share, if there are any Navy people out there, please don't be offended. this is only a true story of something that i experienced while i was in:

on our Marine base, we had ONE barracks for the navy. but at one time while one of our Marine barracks were being renovated some of the marines were temporarily made to stay in the Navy barracks on one of the floors. during that time, the MPs were being called to that barracks almost every night. turns out that some of the sailors there were queer and every several nights would get some Marines drunk, wait till they're passed out, pull their pants down and try to do em.

i was horrified when i heard this and didn't want to believe any of it. till one night i was standing duty in the barracks next to them. then shit started goin down and the MPs had to come again. this time, they caught the guys and got pictures of them tryin to rape our Marines while they were drunk.

if Obama removes this "don't ask don't tell" there will be more opportunities allowed for this to happen. and the LAST place we need it to be is on the front lines!

listen, it's bad enough that there is sooo much problems with drama, tension, sexual harassment, and rape between the males and females in the military.... if we add another "category" to our service it will be a whole other mess on our hands and further -not only complicate things, but like others have said, "add distractions".

Under current policy if one is found to be gay, they are immediately discharged. If any kind of sexual incident happens like the one in #13, action is usually taken immediately. That is not what bothers me. Granted there are gays serving actively and are never discovered because they know the consequences (immediate discharge). If Obama has his way, they can come out and declare their sexuality without fear of discharge. My question to Obama and anyone who feels he is doing the right thing........will these gays be grouped with all gays if there is one incident like described in #13? I can see lynch mobs forming under Obama's policy. I believe in leaving well enough alone. If there are gays serving, don't get caught. Period.

IT IS A KNOWN FACT THAT WE HAVE HAD THEM IN THE MILITARY FOR ALONG TIME. AS LONG AS THEY DON'T ANNOUNCE IT AND DO THEIR JOB GREAT. IF THEY COME OUT OF THE CLOSET WOULD YOU WANT TO BE SHARING A TENT OR BARRACKS WITH THEM? I FOR ONE WOULDN'T WANT TO.
