Vegetarians & Vegans Support Group
Vegetarianism is the practice of not consuming the flesh of any animal . Veganism excludes all animal products from diet and in some definitions from attire also. Vegetarians have varied motivations including religious, cultural, ethical, aesthetic, environmental, social, economic, health, political, and personal concerns. The cons of being a veg are:
1. Sometimes a wide variety of foods are not available, especially on-the-go, in little backwards towns (hope you like potatoes and iceberg lettuce or carrying your own snacks around) and in strange foreign lands.
2. Annoying people will annoy you (if you let them).
3. People may ask stupid stuff like, "Well, what if you were stranded on a deserted island with no vegetable matter and only meat. Would you eat it then?", "What if there was a gun to your head?" and other hypotheticals that have no bearing on actual reality.
4. You may need to ask about "hidden" animal products while dining at restaurants or at other's homes.
5. Some people of the opposite sex may rule you out, as far as dating or marriage.
6. People will give you well-meaning but wrong advice on diet, even doctors who are not required to study nutrition--- at all!
7. You may have trouble gaining weight, but most vegetarians are a normal size and much healthier than meat-eaters.
8. You may need to supplement with B-12. This is debatable though.
That's all I can think of. Obviously the pros outweigh the cons. So veg it is!
But I feel the worst thing, aside from those little annoyances, you're still contributing to cruelty. D:
Milk/egg/dairy industry is just as bad as the meat industry.
However, if you're going vegetarian, congrats on making a change! :D
You're helping some, and vegetarianism is a great stepping stone towards eliminating all animal products and harming less! :)
