The video was shown last week at the 38th Annual Conference of The North American Vegetarian Society held at the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown Pennsylvania.

I too love Beatrix Pottert. She and I share the same first name. It means to make others happy.

The video is talking about FACTORY FARMS. I live in very rural Missouri. The cows are raised on grass and herbs and not chemicals. These mall family farms depend upon the health of their farm animals and uise extreme care in tending for them. Please don't confuse factory farms with old fashion small farms. yes, they still exist. Not that many but that is where you get humanely raised meat. yep. I am a vegetarian but believe in telling the truth.

I do not hunt but know how to shoot a fun. Those that hunt, i appreciate because otherwise there would be an overpoplulation and the animals would die of starvation. A horrible way to die.

For a really really good comparison please read The Secret Life of Plants by Christopher Byrd and let us know what you have learned from reading that book.

Bambee -- i understand your point about family farms vs. factory farms. Obviously it's preferable to the way the big commercial farms operate. Unfortunately they are practically immune to regulation because their lobby is so powerful, and they raise and slaughter on a far greater scale than the farms you're comparing them with, so they are unfortunately the primary suppliers. I also think they can charge less for their products although i could be wrong about that.

As for hunting, I always hear the argument that it's beneficial to the animals to control their population. But it wouldn't have been necessary if humans didn't encroach on the hunting territory of wolves and cougars and other large predators, who tend to avoid encounters with humans, and get shot when they do. It's a big mess.
