Uterine cancer is cancer of the uterus. It mainly occurs after menopause, and presents with vaginal bleeding. I know you've seen that intro before, but I don't know what else to say . . . this is where I am. I have not been diagnosed yet, I have been referred to a gyn oncologist and the d&c has been scheduled for 9/30.
Two years ago I suffered multiple bilateral pe's and was placed on coumadin. Fortunately, it did not alter my period, but about the third month, a clear discharge started about two days after my period ended and lasted about 2-3 days. When it happened again the next month, I thought maybe it was related to the coumadin, nut told my gyn anyway. She did a pap and sent me for w vaginal and pelvic ultrasound. She said the discharge showed endometrial cells in it and the usound showed a fibroid. She said she didnt want to do a biopsy or anything invasive because of the coumadin, so we did regular paps and usounds every 6-9 months. Just had the latest one on 8/9 and she called me in the next week. She said the report advised having a tissue sample and she referred me to a gyn oncologist since I was now off the coumadin since november. Also, my period started skipping early this year and the discharge has been daily, turning pink in the last 2-3 weeks.
To make matters worse, a new clot was confirmed that afternoon and I was placed back on coumadin and arixtra shots. After a week, my inr spiked and I was rushed by ambulance 8/26 to the er with sever vaginal bleeding. My inr was 4.7. I lost 1/2 my volume of blood and was given vitamin k, 6 units of blood, 2 units of FFP and 2 iron infusions. Also, the went in through my neck and put in a filter since, until they determine exactly whas going on and treat it, antocoags are not an option.
I learned from the hospital gyn what I feel I should have been told by my own gyn. The iltrasound showed that mu uterus lining was over an inch too thick and there was a polyp mass pushing against my cervix from the inside. The strongly suspect cancer, which the oncologist also said.
So, here I find myself, unmarried, virgin of 44 years old facing the probability of uterine cancer. Waiting three more weeks to have the d&c. Wjat to do? I cope by gathering information and details, so I decided to go ahead and join this great group after reading posts.
I have so many questions, recovering from hysterectomy, what questions to ask the doc, how to turn off your brain, open versus lap as I am 240lbs and onc has expressed concerns anout being able to do lap, coping with chemo, learning about options, going through it alone . . . I feel like I need a crash course cuz I onky get one shot at this.
Added to that my mother was diagnosed with colon cancer ay 48, so I have scheduled a colonoscopy since in women colon symptoms can be mistaken for gyn symptoms. We know somethings happening gynocologically, but given my family history, must check the colon as well.
So, my mind is scattered and I have been dealing with increased fatigue the last couple of days. Is it residual from my hospitaluzation or something else. I know I am rambling, but I cant help it. I am reading all of yhe posts, but would apreciate it if you could share your experiences with having and recovering from the hysterectomy, open or lap and would really appreciate hearing from others who ate overweight and what your experience was. I was diagnosed in Sept 2012 with uterine cancer. My hysterectomy was scheduled Oct 24th 2012 and was suppose to be the robotic surgery, but once she was in there, the tumor had taken over my whole uterus and poking out of it, so the switched to a radical surgery, so I had a 7 inch incision. I was told it took 5 hrs in surgery. In my experience, I was up the next day sitting in a chair for a time. My Dr said she was surprised at how soon I was able to tolerate being up, but the try to get you up quick these days. Of course my incision hurt when I moved to get up but once I was up it didn't unless I moved. I was in the hospital for 4 days and then the sent me home. It took me two weeks to be able to move without too much discomfort and about four weeks until I could lie on my side, which is my preferred sleeping position. I know everyone is different and heals different but remember, keep a positive attitude. And my friends were a great help to me. I live alone with only my cat to keep me company and my neighbor who had only moved here 3 months earlier was such a great help to me. She helped me with the housework and just spent time with me. If you don't have someone close to you, then do something you like. I spend many an hour reading and listening to music. And I love to write. I have done stories on fanfiction.net and I wrote. But above all, remember to keep a positive attitude. This is your best friend. I know there will be times when you feel defeated (I did) but just hang in there!
