Urinary incontinence is the involuntary excretion of urine from one's body. It is often temporary, and it almost always results from an underlying medical condition. I think that I have posted here before that my daytime issues have not typically been too bad. I do have occasional accidents, but generally, if I am near a bathroom, I am fine, and I only think about wearing a diaper for things like long road trips where I might have trouble getting to a restroom quickly. Even then, though, I stop at rest areas and do not have too many problems.
Today, though, I decided to go for a little Sunday drive and see some new areas around me. During the drive, I started to feel like I really needed to use the restroom. Since this was just a scenic drive, it is not like there was really anywhere to stop like a rest area, and I was not sure that there would be any public restrooms in any places that I might go anyway. So I turned around and headed home.
Fortunately, I did not end up having an accident, but this is the first time that I have felt that my incontinence has directly affected my quality of life. Sure it is annoying to wet the bed and have accidents while travelling, but none of those things has really made me have to change my plans. I just had to plan accordingly. And you might think that I could have just planned accordingly with my trip today, but that sort of brings me to my question/thought.
Would you think about putting on a diaper for something like this, and just go through with it, or would you avoid these sort of situations? Like I said, I did not end up having an accident, though if I had stayed and not been able to find a restroom, I very well could have. On the other hand, I do not like the idea of wearing a diaper unless I absolutely have to, and certainly hate using it when I think that there could have been another way. Is this okay, though? Has any one else had a similar experience? Is potentially having an accident worth preparing for it, or should I stick to activities where access to a restroom is more assured?

I and a NEWCOMER to incontenence (you can see my lengthy post on post-concussion/PTSD) - because of a beating i took during a robbery. I was so ashamed when i went to buy diapers the first time - the fact is, we aren't alone! If you plan on being out and about for any length of time - wear a diaper - who cares? You need to enjoy the life you have R.Porter. Don't let a little thing like pee get in the way of enjoying your life - it's way too short my friend!
Lastly - because I have to - I wear EVERYWHERE I go, just to avoid leaking on myself. Nobody will fault you for wanting to keep your clothing dry. You might get a snicker from someone if you bend over and your diaper shows in a store or something - so wear long t-shirts or just don't worry about it.

I think it comes down to your comfort level and what you are willing to put up with in order to achieve comfort. For me, honestly, if I am alone and I have an accident and no one will see it but me, that's not such a big deal, and I'm willing to take that chance if caught in an unexpected situation. If I'm around people, I'm comfortable that I can go to the bathroom a little more often, drink a little less, etc. to make sure I won't have any issues with making it in time if my bladder does get full. If I weren't comfortable with either of those things, then I would consider wearing something during situations where the potential of an accident might come up... and that wouldn't have to be all the time, just on a case by case basis if I knew a bathroom would be hard to come by. You don't have to choose between limiting your activities or wearing protection all the time. You can wear protection 1 day out of 100 (if that's all you need it) and do what you want to do while remaining comfortable and confident whatever situation you're in. :)
