It seems like there was a previous post concerning hospital stays , diapers etc. I have spent quite a bit of time in the hospital over the last 12 years. Also 4 months in a long term care facility. For most of this time I have needed diapers. I have been through the terrible UTIs from cathing and various other troubles. I have bowel incontinence as well so for the last 7 years diapers have been a constant. I'm disabled and need full time nursing care anyway so there has never been any issues as to if I needed them or not. In the begining I was against it for a long time. My drs nurses and family have all eventually came to know this is the best solution. Most of em before I did. Your DRs and Nurses need to know your full level of incontinence and disability before they can assess the best options for dealing with it. I'm not sure if I'm in diapers for the rest of My life or not. At some point I would love to get out of them. As well as walk or gain more control of My body. But its probably not going to happen. There are options surgical etc as far as colostomys & or caths but not sure if thats any better? In all My hospital stays All My nurses have been very profesional dealing with My incontinence needs. In the long term care facility most residents were much older or equally disabled so My being in a diaper was not at all unusual.

It seems that some times the ones we most expect to be understanding and helpful turn out to not be so - Keep in mind always that those that have difficulty with your condition are saying much more about their inability to be open minded and accepting than about a physical issue over which you had no choice in.

In 2013 I had an accident resulting in spinal injury at the base of my neck with paralysis from there down, spasticity (muscle contractions and spasms) and double incontinence. Both my anus and my urethra have been left closed except with manual intervention. I hardly ever pass urine via the usual route (I have a suprapubic catheter passing directly into my bladder about 2 inches below my...
