I have worked from home on various occasions. Most of that work has been market research analysis, web content writing and translation. Soon I'll have an interview for a journalism position that is also home-based. So, writing jobs are definitely one area where there are opportunities.

A friend's wife was a reservation agent for an airline from home. Now she's trying to start up a home-based travel agency since she has that experience with the airline. Another makes painted personalized wine glasses. She does have to go to craft fairs and such to promote her product, so it's not 100% home-based.
