Volunteering deserves a gas stipend

I have been volunteering at a relief agency for a while ,,,ok,,they do require volunteers to help the place function and to attract $ support ,,,hospitals do the same,,,many social services also rely on community persons contributing ,,,and it is nice being appreciated and not being yelled at or put upon when you actually are employed ,,,,HOWEVER,,,,in this age of $4 to $5 a gallon gasoline. Good will and plaques and thank you notes have a limited shelf life in the real world ,,,,

If I am volunteering at a hospital or agency (which probably keeps it a-float since budgets have been cut back to squat ,,,) under present conditions it is only right to provide a stipend for gas for those people who have to spend their own funds for gas to get to the agency or hospital where they will be volunteering their time FOR FREE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If you know of any agency, conceren, whatever,, that provides a stipend for their volunteers ,,,I would be curious to know ,,,cause I certainly do not ,,

If you volunteer for anything ,,,,it is time to START A MOVEMENT ,,,by asking for and being provided with a gas stipend for your trips to the place where you are volunteering FOR FREE,,,,,

What are they going to say ??....NO ??

i agree i have been saying this for a long time about the price of gas or bus fare to go somewhere that is a free place to volunteer. i dont know why a lot of people dont understand that. where i live you need a car to get around regardless if you live in a city, suburbs, or the boonies. the bus system isnt that great, the lightrail doesnt go all over the valley.

i am looking for a volunteer agency to go to not to get a job but to give back.

Unfortunately they want something for absolutely nothing ,,,just because they cannot cough up a job,,doesn't mean they can steal your services and expect you to pay for the privilege of doing for them for nothing,,,,Come on and get real,,,charity agencies or not ,,,when will the Volunteer Community grow up and get some balls ,,,,

true. i read an article about how they are expecting you to do the work for nothing by doing them a favor. a lot of people don't get it they think they will get a job by volunteering with them right now. i talked to a guy on linkedin long ago who was volunteering for the humane society here in my state.

he was working with them for 2 yrs and still trying to break into the company which i am not sure if he did now or not. this is how i am seeing now if i get offered a job by the nonprofit great id take it, but if the contract ends and they claim they cant hire anyone, then i will move on.

i am looking to volunteer not to get a job because i want to give back. there is nothing wrong with giving back, but people are being cheated expecting to work for free all because these companies are so cheap! my therapist and social worker tell me all the time oh u will volunteer and be hired soon!

my therapist feels volunteering would calm my soul down and help me be more positive.
