Unemployment Support Group
Recently unemployed or frustrated with the job search? Unemployment can affect more than just the bank account - it has a negative effect on motivation and self-esteem, even sense of identity. This community addresses the challenges associated with unemployment and how to cope.
(2) What is your education background? I have a BS degree in Operations and Supply Chain Management
(3) What are your long-term career goals? I want to work someplace where I feel I am making contributions and where I feel happy and fulfilled.
(4) What are the top three things you find that make you feel alive, motivated and determined?Going fun places with friends, hanging out with my best friends, and I am hoping volunteering- I have never done it before but I am even having trouble finding opportunities in this area.
(5) What is your number one biggest issue with being unemployed? I don't like not working, contributing.
(6) How much experience do you have in your dream career field? 10 years.
(7) What is the last opportunity you had with an interview that you were not selected for and why do you think that is? Today, a phone screening. I went through a divorce that financially devastated me and I have not had the money to file bankruptcy because I have been raising my children on my own financially.
(8) How do you want support from this group? I want a positive outlook to my situation on a daily basis- as when doors close I feel very discouraged. It is easy to give up and not find a solution to each problem- but I don't want to give up.
(9) What are the top three areas in your life that you feel are restricted from unemployment and how would you like that to change? Filing for bankruptcy so that I can get my life back on track, No health insurance (I have asthma), Inability to do things that are fun that require money as I need to watch how I spent my money,
Two days later, applied for a role, they called me the same day, two days later game in for an interview. Less than 9 days after my post, i have a job and have already started. First full time job since 2011 and more money than I've ever made. The key was staying positive and working hard. Showing that while i was off i was studying courses and working on gaining skills e.g. excel.
I am a seasoned professional and no one will out work me. I will not take this job for granted and am excited to be on my way to getting my life and finances back in order. First is pay to pay the debt i've accumulated and set up savings/emergency funds. Company has given me courses to study to get licensed again and are even paying for half my courses. This company will not regret hiring me, the bottom is over.
Our Government is a joke too. They believe everyone should either work at Costa/Starbucks, Tesco/Asda or do Charity Work in Africa. (just because the 'Duchess of Cambridge' lol does it) They're puppets for the Elite. (don't get me started on that)
I have visions, but they are labours of love for the time being.
Congrats :) and thanks for sharing. Wishing you all the best and that the time issue will dissolve over... yes, time.
I have had one day of work in advance last week (official start is next week). It was very weird and discouraging in a way. The boss said something very strange to me in front of my new male work mate who will start with me. He commented on the HR selection process. It sounded like me being not his first choice. Couldn't believe my ears, very strange. There was a board to make the hiring decisions. He was only one member of that board.
Anyway. Maybe things are messed up before I even get the chance to show my knowledge and abilities. Would not be the first time in my life.
Yet, as Triple wrote, to me it is also a sense behind all of that. And chances. To grow.

(2) What is your education background?
Life sciences Bsc
(3) What are your long-term career goals?
To work for myself, become a trainer in the area of positive management, set up some business ventures.
(4) What are the top three things you find that make you feel alive, motivated and determined?
Helping people live out their dreams, other peoples passion, sharing of knowledge
(5) What is your number one biggest issue with being unemployed?
The restrictions lack of money places on my ability to get out and network, further myself and my projects.
(6) How much experience do you have in your dream career field?
A small amount of experience but I'm building on it and waiting to find out about some courses that will bring me further on that path.
(7) What is the last opportunity you had with an interview that you were not selected for and why do you think that is?
Actually it was a while ago, for a cleaning job while I was in college and I'd say it was a matter of being over qualified (I have lost jobs in the past due to lack of knowledge).
(8) How do you want support from this group?
It would be great to have some people as sounding boards, that I can bounce ideas off. Also to have someone to check in with, that I can make sure I'm getting stuff done in a timely fashion. And for ideas and inspiration. I love to hear other peoples wins (it helps me to keep going) but I also love helping people and by helping others it reaffirms me.
(9) What are the top three areas in your life that you feel are restricted from unemployment and how would you like that to change?
(1)My work/career, not having the money to get out and network and do courses that will help me is very limiting.
(2)Then my social life, I have no money so I just don't get out as much as I used to, nor can I afford to drive to visit friends as regularly as I would have before. And I'm back living at home with my father (very grateful that I can do that) but it does little for my self worth or being able to have friends over, I feel I am getting in his way.
(3)And my health, my motivation is much lower than normal, I'm not exercising as regularly as I should be and have gained weight. And the stress and uncertainty involved are putting my health under pressure.
