I was listening to NPR segment on this guy who apparently was just hired working for a manufacturing company and had been out of work for quite a while ,, not sure how long ,,listening to the segment you would have thought that he hit a trifecta with his last couple of dollars ,,,
Has the labor market sunk so low that this becomes the rarity in a (booming !!) economy..
I have been thinking of my own situation,, and this is what it looks like and it is better than some I will admit, but is still pretty pathetic,,
I fully intended to stay on in some capacity within my career field ,, but was edged out at 62 at which time the labor market hit the rocks and I decided to take early retirement instead of waiting on 65 which I fully intended to try for,,
So,,, Instead of continuing to pay into the system till age 65, I and thousands like me are taking out of the system early,,, cause there are no damn jobs available or with one job there are 200 or more applicants.. all a lot younger than me ,,,
The government of the United States is responsible for the creation of a stable jobs market if private industry is not willing to step up to the plate (remember FDR ??),,,,, this they are not doing and refuse to do or acknowledge ,,saying that things are getting better ????? I certainly don't see it ,, does anyone else,, maybe you have better eyesight than me !!!!

well at least you are eligible for retirement...I am 55 and not there for seven years and by then they will have moved it to 69 before I can retire.
