Here in Florida where the unemployment numbers are like reading production figures out of Pravda in the Soviet days,,from what I gather,,are about twice what the published numbers are and that is being pretty conservative, I went to a workforce one workshop class and I asked an interesting question amidst the moaning and groaning of the recent additions to being unemployed,,,Is interning at a given company a good way of securing a job,,,,??? The answer that I seemed to get is a rousing YES !! if the complany is willing to play along,,,it seems that for many jobs out there it is less a matter of salary and more a question of hiring with a benefits package,,,
There is this insane culture that has been allowed to gestate in pvt business in this country where "something for nothing " attitudes have flourished,,,which is why especially nowdays unless you can maintain your worth to the point of indespensibility,, you will most likely get booted after 89 days (the normal in most cases term of probation) and another fool is hired to take your position in having to reset a new hire,,and the game goes on and on,,,

i found interning jobs wanting you to have previous work experience before they will hire you! i said r u serious? i remember a time in the 90s (yea i know way back and even early 2000s) where u had zero experience and still got an interning job its basically volunteering just a fancy way of calling it volunteering.
eventually this will pass. people will get tired of just gettting what they need at walmart. they will miss the "connection" they seek in the shopping experience. one day soon people will go to another place to get what they need cause they FEEL good leaving. this will be the spark and shift that carries us up to careers again. for now those of us out of work are the masses that see this importance and simply have not agreed to march anymmore. welcome home i say. its not easy... but a saner place.
As fate would have it ,,,I got a call from 211/Helpline locally that asked if I would be interested in volunteer work,,,Ok,,,well it is a call back after all,,
