same here do they really read these resumes like they claim? you can send an application with no resume unless otherwise and then they toss the application because you didn't send a resume. i am beyond frustrated with the job search nobody isnt willing to train if you have no experience lots of people who are out of college (me from 3 yrs ago) have no work experience or barely any....

Nope. Resumes don't matter much anymore.

Only resumes that matter are most likely for high position that not much people are able to fill; Lawyers, Accountants, Doctors, Financial Analysts, Engineers, Architects, etc.

When companies continuously get truck loads of resumes, I think after a while any resume that follows will either remain unopened or gets binned.

For a long time it's been "who you know". However, on a more positive not for those who are feeling hopeless, it seems as if skilled workers are always needed; electrician, plumber, mechanic, computer IT. It also depends on the country and what is in high demand.

computers will always be in high demand i should know i have a degree in it. however, it is not simple to get an IT job unless you have the experience in the past but even those who are experienced aren't getting hired either. i got my degree 2010 no certs and still couldn't find a simple low end entry level tech job.

they said at the workshops how the resumes matter im like really? why isn't getting hired somewhere? IT wants resumes that's for sure unless you got backed up work exp and certs then u may get in....

Many of the applications I fill out will not even accept my Resume, whether it be direct upload or cut&paste. They often have a disclaimer stating that Resumes are not used to determine whether one gets hired. Their sites direct me to fill out each and every little box to fill in all my data that I already have neatly displayed on my Resume. It is a very tedious and time consuming process to fill out those applications, but I do it.

Resumes are still important, but not for everyone industry or company. It sure comes in handy printed out on my desk when I fille out those darn, tedious applications. It's as if they are weeding out people by making it a frustrating process. :P

Could you try a niche approach.

For example, lets say you were looking for a customer service job.

Perhaps your past experience included customer service for 2 companies that manufactured nuts and bolts.

Create a resume that TARGETS JUST the nuts and bolts. Have references all over the resume to that particular industry. Include competitors, business practices, accounts, etc.

Then send THAT resume to only the Nuts and Bolts companies with a very eye grabbing, brief yet succinct cover letter.

It's just one of many strategies.

I understand your frustration 100 percent. I have sent so many resumes out that I can't even attempt to put an estimate on the amount. I do know that the precious cover letter is considered to be the eye grabber. If you word the cover letter in such a fashion that the reader wants to read more about you (and good luck trying to read the mind of the reader who you have never met and could not possibly fathom what he/she wants to read), then the reader/interviewer will turn the page to the resume.
I have tried on every persona a person can think of out of desperation, but, yet, I am still unemployed.

Also learned recently that you need to be "relevant" to be hired. That means when the hiring agent does an internet search of your name, they expect to see a facebook page, twitter, etc. If you're not there on a google search, you're not worth hiring.

true, but not everybody wants a facebook or any other social media site. i have a twitter site i havent been on it in a long time and very disappointed with it. i have a linkedin account and definitely hate it very very disappointed in that site too nothing but stuck up people on there.

I have done the targeted resume and still no luck, now it been two years past I had temp jobs that lasted only a few days to a week.
I am beyond emotions today, It's not logic what is going on with the job market.
They refuse to train anyone for a position and trying their best to eliminate them.
Even any assistance programs had made it worse because at first they were required to offer you training now they don't.

This keeps going it's not going to look well or go well this summer here in my state.
There has been a lot of tension since 2008 and has not eased any after people were forced to move to the Suburb's with no thought or care for the homeless people in the city. It's good for business, but a killer for jobs.
