Twins, Triplets & More Support Group
Triplets & More","This community connects people seeking information and experiences about multiple births. Different names for multiple birth are used, depending on the actual multiple. Common multiples are two and three, known as twins and triplets respectively. Share your thoughts and find whatever support you need."
We too did IVF. While I don't think you should have to share your story with perfect strangers, we found it was just easier to answer honestly when asked directly about fertility treatments. Most of the time if people are asking that directly, they went through it themselves or know someone who did/is. I have yet to be judged by a stranger openly after being honest and sometimes I have even been able to give a referral to my RE.
Of course, you have no responsibility to these strangers and shouldn't feel pressured to answer if you are uncomfortable with it. If they ask about fertility treatments just tell them that it's not important how they got here and you are just happy to have them. Hopefully that will be enough to give them the hint to back off. If they don't, I wouldn't feel bad about being blunt that it's none of their business. Another approach is to turn the question back to them - say "oh, do you know someone that is going through infertility treatments?" If they say "yes", you can say "well, multiples is definitely a possible result - I wish them luck" or something like that.
Over time you will figure out a good strategy because it will happen even more after they are born. Two babies is like a magnet to all sorts of people. Most of the strangers that stop us now either just want to admire them or tell us how they are a twin or have twins or something along those lines. It makes grocery shopping take forever though - so now if someone stops to comment on them I just pretend I don't hear and keep walking.
I'm currently pregnant with twins with Donor Eggs; and, we did have a daughter with my eggs from our second cycle.
6 out of 10 couples face fertility issues so the fertility discussion is a common one in society now. But, it is your own business in if and how you want to talk about it.
My sister has twins girls (big surprise to the family), so I just usually say we already have twins in the family.
Any child is a blessing...no matter how how they are conceived. IMHO.
