I was wondering if any of you ladies had a thought on whether infant preparedness classes are worth it. My husband an I are already taking an infant CPR class, and I will be taking a breastfeeding class, but I wonder if we should sign up for a preparedness class? I guess it teaches you about diapering and burping and such, which may be helpful since neither of us has much experience with newborns...but I also can't find one that's separate from a labor and delivery class, and because my OB only delivers multiples by c-section I feel like much of that info would be wasted...what did you all do, or what are you planning to do regarding classes?
The infant preparedness class was ok - it was more for my husband than me. We did learn how to diaper, swaddle and bathe a baby and also a lot of other general information (what temp is considered a fever, that kind of stuff). I'm glad I took it although nothing was really earth shattering.
If you know you are having a c-section, I would skip the birthing class. Most classes only spend a small amount of time talking about a c-section and it's not worth the money. But you might want to rent a birthing class video (we got one from our local library) to get the basics on the surgery (what to expect after surgery (taking out the catheter, first bm, all that), but if not I'm sure the doc and nurses can explain what to expect at one of your appointments.
One other class that I took that I really recommend was a multiples class. I don't know if your hospital offers one, but mine was taught by a nurse who had triplets. It was really helpful to have someone talk frankly about their struggles and also the positives of having multiples.
