Turner Syndrome Support Group

Turner syndrome encompasses a number of chromosomal abnormalities, of which monosomy X, is the most common. It occurs in 1 out of every 2,500 female births. Instead of the normal XX sex chromosomes for a female, only one X chromosome is present and fully functional. In Turner syndrome, female sexual characteristics are present but underdeveloped.

turners and autism?

My daughter was diagnosed with high-functioning autism in 2006. I read several books on it at the time and it was like I was reading a story about her. Now, three weeks ago, she was diagnosed with Turners at the age of 10. The doctor said that some girls with Turners have similar problems to that of autism, mainly social problems. He also said that she may not even have autism and that Turners could have been her issue all along. We'll never know, there is no blood test for autism, she could have both. My questions is, does anyone have a daughter who has problems socially? Making friends, knowing what to say and when to say it, staying on topic, being able to have a conversation? I have made friends with many moms of autistic children and now I feel as if we don't belong and our children who used to be similar are now suddenly different.

I was diagnosed with ts at four months old. I did have problems socialy and making friends was never easy. This was not bad enough that I was unable to go to school or work but people aften say Im quite or sometimes even stuck up. It has gotten better as Ive aged. dont know if this helped any best wishes

Our daughter, who is 5 years old, was diagnosed with TS at birth. She, too, has a "high functioning autism" profile. Feel free to email me directly with any questions. We've been following autism protocols- diet, biomedical, therapies- even though she was not diagnosed as being on the spectrum. There's no question it's her TS at play in our daughter's case, and I know the NLD profile so common in girls with TS can look very much like Aspergers or HFA.

Thanks for the info. We've only known about this for a few weeks so I haven't done much reading on NLD. Trying to find a good book on Turners, but there doesn't seem to be much of a selection. I did some reading on the web about NLD and it does sound a lot like HFA. I'd loved to be able to take that label off her. We see the endo on Wed. to start the growth hormone. Is your daughter on that and has it been successful? Is it something that has to be taken daily?
