We have been TTC for 10 (non-consecutive) months in the past 3 years. I have had surgeries to remove endometriomas and there have been other hurdles that have interfered with us TTC for consecutive periods of time during these 3 years.
I have been going for acupuncture treatments and taking Chinese herbal medicine (all via an MD) for the past 15 months. This has helped immensely with the endometriosis and with my sanity :)
I have had 2 miscarriages during this TTC time period (one in Nov 2012 and the other in April 2013). The RE feels strongly that the losses were unrelated to the endometriosis.
However, there has always been a question mark about my luteal phase since I have spotting for 3 to 5 days prior to my actual period.
So the RE suggested that I try Prometrium 200 mg/2x day (vaginally) this month starting 3 days after ovulation.
Not only did I not get pregnant (I know this was not a guarantee in one month's time :) but this month I dealt with that disappointment/frustration compounded by the side effects of the medicine (extreme irritability, nausea, foggy thinking, complete loss of sex drive, and others that are TMI).
So I am not feeling very enthralled with Prometrium at the moment. I will put up with anything to get pregnant and stay pregnant...but this compounded my devastation this month so I am wondering if there is something else (with fewer side effects) I could try.
I will be talking to the RE about possibly lowering the dose. It did fix the spotting issue. But I don't know if I can go through feeling the way I felt this month...month after month. I was not very much fun to live with this month.
I am wondering if anyone has had their dr (OB, midwife, RE) or naturopath, etc. recommend something other than synthetic progesterone for luteal phase issues?
I have heard of Vitex and also vitamin B6 (did not work for me). I am wary of taking something like chasteberry or anything herbal that is not under the advice of a licensed practitioner. So I don't want to randomly pull information off the Internet and assume it's safe for me.
So I am hoping that someone has some advice that was given to them (on this topic) from a practitioner.
Any such stories would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much.

My 6mo twin DD's are EBF and just started rice cereal on the first. Everything has been going fine except this morning one of them had a diaper rash (lots of redness around her anus). I read this as one of the signs of an allergy. BUT I did just buy a different brand diaper yesterday (which they have used randomly before w/no issues). Do you think its the cereal or the diaper? Im ready to start...
I took vitex and put progesterone cream on and i take b complex, all no help with my short luteal phase, right now im waiting to see my doctor again but on my first 2 visit he said that those 3 wont help very much and the best thing is clomid and suppositories of progesterone, but it all depends on what is wrong with your luteal phase, its not something that home remedies can usually fix. I would talk to your doctor, when it comes to short luteal phases and low progesterone, ive found the doctors really do know best, the right doctors, this is my third new doctor!
Good luck and baby dust
This month I did progesterone suppositories prescribed by the RE.
The RE thinks a longer luteal phase would be more ideal. I can get pregnant, but I've had 2 miscarriages. He thinks the miscarriages are unrelated to progesterone/LP...but as a extra precaution this month he had me try the suppositories.
I ovulate on day 12 and my period begins on day 28 which would be great in and of itself. However, I have spotting on day 24 or 25 and then 26 and 27 until my period really begins on day 28.
This month the progesterone suppositories took care of the spotting issue...so it would appear that it fixed the luteal phase issue.
However, the side effects.......not good.
smh06..I'll let you know if I find out anything new when I talk to him again.
