Luteal Phase

Very stupid question, but can someone tell me how I can tell if I have a short luteal phase? I have been reading up on it, but am kind of confused, any input is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

To do it yourself, you would need to chart your cycles (BBT, CM, etc.). Once you've done that and established when you ovulate, then you should be able to see if your luteal phase is short.

I think there are hormonal tests that can be done by a doctor too at various points in your cycle. I've not done them... but fear, as with anything, they're probably expensive.

It should be at least 15 days for proper implantation. You have to know when you ovulate...and then the first day of AF. The time period b/w that is your luteal phase.

If you know when you're ovulating, you can figure out how long your luteal phase it. The luteal phase is the time between ovulation and AF starting. REs opinions differ on what is too short but most of them like to see it be at least 12 days. My luteal phase had gone down to 9 days after my 3rd miscarriage and it has finally returned to 14, which I am thrilled about!

Does B6 help to extend that? The last 2 mos my periods of been kind of screwy and I am wondering if my luteal phase is too short. Someone recommended to take that but I wanted to get a couple opinions.

If you want to extend your luteal phase, a really good over the counter way to do it is with progesteron cream. You put it on twice a day and it can help lengthen the luteal phase. You start it only afer ovulation. If you start it before, it can keep you from ovulating. Then you stop it when AF comes or once you reach 14 DPO do an HPT and if it's negative, stop the progeserone so AF can start.

didnt know much about it either. but now that im reading more on it, im thinking my doctor screwed up and should had me on progesterone supplements, beacuse she already knew that i tested on the low side! what the heck...and thats y i started my period 7 days after the iui....and why im so miserable right now

I started ready "Taking Charge of You Fertility" and that's how I learned about it. If that is the case it would explain so much. I wonder why my doctor never brought that to my attention before.
