I took 50mg of clomid and never had blood work but I did have to go in and check my follicle sizes. My inc paid for it but I'm not sure about bcbs? Good luck to you.

I did Clomid for about a year from early 2007-2008 and had to go in for follicle checks because I was having up to 6 mature follies a cycle on 100mg. I just started Clomid again this cycle and don't have to go in since I'm hust taking 50 mg. My insurance does not pay for any of it but it really depends on your insurance coverage.

I have never taken clomid, though I have researched the effects of it. You should never take it without being monitored with ultrasounds... a side effect of clomid is not only too many follies (which can put you in a john and kate plus 8 situation) but also cysts on your ovaries which can be dangerous if your dr. does not know about it. You should only be on clomid for 3 cycles at once, and 6 in a lifetime. Hope this helps!!

To replay to cakes comment, Clomid has a 10% chance of twins and multiples beyond that are a VERY slim chance. I have been on Clomid for 4 cycles. You do not necessarily have to have your follicles checked every cycle. Clomid is used to induce ovulation and in order to tell if you ovulated or not, your doc can check your progesterone level 7 days after ovulation (done through a blood draw). My insurance covers this 100%. Ask your doc about either the progesterone check or checking your follicles. The u/s to check your follicles is more expensive which is why some docs go with the progesterone check. Also the 3 cycles at one time and 6 in a lifetime is not necessarily 100% accurate. It's a baseline. Sometimes it takes a while to find out what dosage will work best for you. If you don't conceive after 6 cycles of Clomid your chances are pretty much slim to none if you would continue the medication, which is why you'll read about the 3-6months.....that is when most women will conceive while taking the medication. Make sure to talk to your doctor.

I never had to have bloodwork done while I was on Clomid, but I did haev routine U/S around day 11 of my cycle. This was to track how many follicles were being produced and to monitore whether or not the dose needs to be strengthened. My doctor let me forego progesterone checks because I was taking OPK's. I already was ovulating regulary before they put me on Clomid, I was given it to help stimulate my left side because I had an etopic last year on right that left some scarring.
My insurance didn't pay for any of it, but there is a generic of Clomid that is a lot less expensive. I did get a BFP on my third round of Clomid (100mg) and have my first U/S tomorrow, which I will be 6 weeks.
