Trigeminal Neuralgia Support Group
Trigeminal neuralgia, or Tic Douloureux, is a neuropathic disorder of the trigeminal nerve that causes episodes of intense pain in the eyes, lips, nose, scalp, forehead, and jaw. Trigeminal neuralgia is considered by many to be among the most painful of conditions.
I have been diagnosed with TN officially after 2 bouts lasting several months.
My question is, did anyone else experience pain first in the tongue?
I thought it was a dental problem until it progressed to full blown attacks that involved my tongue, lower and upper jaw and chin.
My neurologist said it's rare for it to start with tongue pain. The attacks are controlled now with carbamazapine 400 mg a day but I still get shocks in tongue and lower jaw on eating. Now I'm wondering if there is also something else going on.

I noticed you are in Canada where medicinal forms of marijuana are legal. There is a spray known as Stativex that has THC in it that is supposed to be good for neuropathy in the mouth area. If you google it you will find out more information. I would love to be able to try it but I am not in Canada and in the uS it would get seized if I ordered it. Just a thought and it doesn't get you high BTW from what I read. Best of luck with your pain as well ;o)
Luckily my pain comes and goes. Right now I don't even have that facial pain which is great. I'm hoping that the whole thing will disappear as it did last year after 3 months.
I will keep the spray in mind though and thanks again.
